Saturday's League Match Previews

Despite many eyes being on the Buildbase FA Vase this weekend, many people will be looking at some important league fixtures taking place across both the Premier and First Fivisions of the Hallmark Security League this Saturday. Even with the lack of quantity with only six fixtures scheduled this by no means affects the quality, with sides poised at the upper end of the tables all vying for strategic positioning in the absence of some of their peers. So with the smaller amount of fixtures in mind, for one week only we have done a dual purpose Preview.
Staring in the Premier Division, AFC Darwen host Runcorn Linnets at the WEC Group Anchor Ground. Darwen currently sit 14th in the league table, they put two consecutive defeats behind them in midweek with a 1-0 away win at Barnoldswick, consolidating their place in lower mid-table.
Linnets have recorded three wins in their last four and netting 16 times over those games alone. They impressed with an eye catching 5-1 win over City of Liverpool in midweek, a victory which was on the back of a 6-1 home win over Padiham only a few days earlier. Linnets currently are in second place, five points behind neighbours, Runcorn Town.
Over at Brocstedes Park, Ashton Athletic host City of Liverpool in a first meeting of these two sides. Ashton Athletic are currently 19th in the table but have only played three league games so far, losing at home to Bootle, drawing at Widnes and winning at AFC Darwen. Ashton Athletic’s last game was last Saturday's 2-1 home win in the Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying round where they beat Evo-Stik North side Bamber Bridge 2-1.
City of Liverpool very rarely lose two on the spin but following a narrow FA Cup exit to Nantwich last weekend they were also beaten by Runcorn Lonnets 5-1 in midweek on their own patch. Prior to that run they had won their previous three games over some tough opposition, starting with the 8-2 cup win over Evo-Stik North side Prescot Cables which showed the potential the team has. This was followed by wins over Maine Road and Charnock Richard with those three games alone they scored 15 goals. At present they are nine points behind the leaders with a game in hand.
Another first is the visit of Burscough to face Runcorn Town as these two clubs go head to head at Pavilions. Table toppers Runcorn town are riding high at the moment, currently unbeaten in the league and five points clear of neighbours Runcorn Linnets. They are unbeaten in their last four in all competitions which includes what could already be an important win over promotion rivals Bootle in midweek. A Mark Reed double in the first half securing the three points for the Weston side.
Burscough are still trying to find their feet at this level again and currently find themselves 21st after six games played. Their performances haven't matched their results, by all accounts they have a strong looking side this term but are just bereft of the ability to kill the games off. Three draws in their last four games backs this theory up at present.
At the St Lukes Stadium two of the early pace setters meet as Winsford United play host to Bootle. Fifth placed Winsford have got off to a great start and have won plaudits for their play as well as admirers for their early results. That wasn't necessarily the case in midweek though where they travelled to AFC Liverpool and came away in the back end of a 4-0 score line at the Marine Travel Arena.
Bootle have been fairly steady so far but as has been the case this season, anyone can beat anyone and this has led to a small lack of consistency which has seen them record only one win in their last four league games. Last season Bootle won both games convincingly with a 3-0 win on the road and a 5-1 win at home.
With the Premier Division games covered, we turn our attentions to Division One, just the two games this weekend but the way that the division is shaping up, it is just as riveting as the Premier Division at the moment.
At the Brian Boys West View Stadium, Bacup Borough take on Abbey Hulton in a first meeting of these two clubs. Seventh placed Bacup face eighth placed Abbey Hulton with both clubs having similar fortunes this season. Bother have played six games and have reaped eleven points and currently sit nicely poised just under the play-off spots.
Bacups unbeaten run of four games came to an end last week as Cammell Laird 1907 came away with a 1-0 win at the Brian Boys Stadium, whilst Abbey Hulton’s own impressive unbeaten run of five was also ended, a 1-0 reverse at Cheadle in midweek put paid to that. Both clubs will be looking for the win to consolidate their positions and keep the early pressure on the top six.
Sandbach United welcome Chadderton to the Sandbach Community Football Centre this Saturday. Eleventh placed Sandbach look to continue their good run of form as they host Chadderton. Sandbach have only one defeat in their last five games and a 2-0 win in midweek over FC Oswestry brought them back into the positive goal difference column having had a slightly difficult start early on.
Chadderton are without a win since a 2-0 victory over Carlisle City on The opening day of the season. Their current 16th placed position in the league and five from five points haul likely reflective of them having to play their games away from home at the moment due to the renovation work taking place at Andrew Street.
