Town the 90 minute men

Something very unusual happened at Frickley Athletic's South Elmshall ground on Saturday - Runcorn Town didn't score a 90th minute winner.

The FA Cup defeat at the hands of their Evo-Stik League opponents brought to an end a remarkable run from the start of the season for Chris Herbert's side, where in each of their three games up to Saturday, striker Craig Cairns had scored the winner in the 90th minute, two of them from penalties.

Although the run finally ended on Saturday, future opponents clearly need to be on the tools right up until the final blast of the referee's whistle when Town are around.

Step up no problem for Charnock

One team who have hit the ground running in gathering league points are Charnock Richard, who sit at the top of the table with nine points from three league games.

It's an impressive start from a team that were promoted as runners-up in Division One last season, and all the more impressive is their goalscoring form, with 14 goals in their three league games so far, which doesn't include the three they scored in their FA Cup defeat against Penistone Church.

With last season's hot shot Carl Grimshaw already in the groove with six goals so far, it's all looking good for another entertaining season at Mossie Park.

West goal fest

Another side providing plenty of entertainment so far this season are West Didsbury & Chorlton, who played out their second 3-3 draw in succession at 1874 Northwich on Saturday.

West's four games so far have produced 21 goals, with Steve Settle's men scoring at least three in every game, and as Tom Bailey and Nic Evangelinos are already finding their shooting boots are firnig nicely with four goals apiece, the chances are that plenty more opposition keepers will be picking the ball out of the back of the net when West come to town.

Alport off and running

After last season's efforts which saw them reach the Division One play offs, Whitchurch Alport were always tipped to be among the promotion contenders from those in the know this time around, and results so far seem to indicate that will be the case.

Three league wins out of three, with 10 goals scored and just one conceded, has laid a marker down and with crowds at Yockings Park growing week by week, it looks like being another good season for a club that is clearly on the up.

Steady start for Silsden

Another club that has made a good start in Division One are Silsden, who sit level on points with Whitchurch Alport at the top of the table, also with a 100% record.

It's a been a good start for Danny Forrest's side, who will be keen to regain their Premier Division status after failing to bounce straight back last season, and a solid start with three wins, two of which were away from home, is a good foundation to build on.
