MACRON PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARDS

PREMIER DIVISION - DECLAN FLETCHER OF CONGLETON TOWN

Declan received three man of the match nominations over the four games played in February, and in the one he did not, he left the field at half time through injury.

The month started with a 3-1 home win against Maine Road.  Having tested Maine Road 'keeper Livesey with a driven free kick, he beat him with a fierce cross shot having neatly turned his marker.  Always in the thick of the action, Declan set Koral free to square for Bailey to double the lead. Declan's next effort saw Livesy save with an outstretched boot and his continual threat earned him man of the match.

The away trip at Abbey Hey started in dramatic style. Koral set up Gardner to give the Bears a 2nd minute lead. Two minutes later, Fletcher's strength and deceptive pace saw him reach the ball as it looked to be running out for a goal kick. His measured and accurate pass back allowed Haynes to side foot in the second.

He headed narrowly over from a free kick and had to wait until the 56th minute to get on the score sheet, side footing home Bailey's square pass across goal and another man of the match award followed.

Against Barnoldswick the Bears had to settle for a 1-1 draw but the visitors looked the better side overall and would have been happy to see Fletcher substituted at half time. The final match of the month was a comprehensive 5-0 defeat at Atherton Collieries, but none the less Declan picked up his 3rd man of the match award in February.

Although Colls were dominant pretty much from start to finish, Declan showed his battling qualities and he at least forced the best save from the home 'keeper.  He kept troubling the home defence through the 90 minutes but the support he usually receives was missing from this performance.

Overall, three man of the match performances in the three games he completed during the shows a consistent level of performance worthy of the award.

DIVISION ONE - DANIEL ILLINGWORTH OF SILSDEN

Daniel made his debut for the Cobbydalers at Stockport Town on January 28th at centre back. He was outstanding in the air and scored Silsden's only goal with a header.

Following that game he has been a rock at the heart of the Silsden defence, and played a key role in wins against Alsager Town, St.Helens Town and Chadderton and in the narrow defeat at City of Liverpool during February.

All the teams mentioned had done well in the previous games - Alsager had won their previous three games, St.Helens had won their previous four games, City of Liverpool were second in the table and Chadderton had won four with goals scored 18, goals conceded 3.

The Cobbydalers' defence conceded just 4 goals in February, picking up nine points from a possible twelve in the month. Daniel has settled in extremely well during his first full month in the team, and in addition to his excellent perfomances, his personality and enthusiasm has rubbed off on the other players.

REUSCH GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH AWARDS

PREMIER DIVISION - ADAM REID OF ATHERTON COLLIERIES

In a month which Colls played four games, winning all four without conceding a goal, young shot stopper Adam Reid was integral to this fine run of form.

"Reidy^ has grown in stature as the campaign has progressed, as he marshalls his defence with increasing confidence. When he has to come for a ball he commits himself fully and his is not afraid to clear everything out including his own defenders.

In the team's fine run in February, Colls enjoyed three 1-0 consecutive victories over Barnton, 1874 Northwich and Bootle, before a month ending 5-0 win over Congleton Town.

In the narrow one goal triumphs, Adam made decisive saves in each game to ensure the three points were collected. In particular, one close range save in the game against 1874 and the way he repelled Bootle's last ditch attempts to get a point, were highlights during an excellent month for both club and goalkeeper, and Adam thoroughly deserves the Colls nomination for Goalkeeper of the Month.

DIVISION ONE - DANIEL WHITING OF STOCKPORT TOWN

Daniel continued his recent good form with a series of excellent performances in goal for Town during February. His technical ability in between the sticks is excellent, and his distribution has continued to improve as the season has progressed.

During the month, Town won three matches against Ashton Town, Charnock Richard and Sandbach United, as well as gaining a point in a competitive 2-2 draw with Widnes.

Daniel made a couple of fantastic saves against Ashton Town in a 7-0 victory and in the warm up for the Charnock Richard match, the management team challenged Daniel to be strong coming for set pieces, as Charnock's strikers are very dangerous in the air, and the pre-match preparations paid off as he nullified the threat from the visitors.

Away at Widnes, Town got off to a flying start, but Daniel made a superb point blank reflex save when they were 1-0 up, and in the final game of the month he produced one superb tip onto the post in the 2-1 victory against Sandbach United at the Stockport Sports Village.

Daniel has remained confident that the club is heading in the right direction, staying loyal and help the new group of players bond well.

Summing up his recent performances, Town Secretary Rob Clare said: "In our opinion Daniel is one of the best shot stoppers in the league and recent performances suggest his all round game is getting better every match - long may it continue!"
