Whitchurch Alport will be gunning for cup glory when they face Market Drayton Town in the TJ Vickers Shropshire FA Premier Challenge Cup semi-final this coming Tuesday night.

It promises to be a tough test for Alport against their Evo-Stik League Division One South opponents, who are the current holders of the trophy, and there’s a bit of added spice to the tie with former Market Drayton players Simon Everall and Danny Read now in the Alport ranks.

Market Drayton Town currently sit in 18th place in their league, and come into the tie having lost their last two games, at home to Rugby Town and away to Lincoln United, but their place in the division looks to be fairly secure with a safe points cushion away from the relegation places.

Alport also come into the game on the back of two defeats, albeit a momentary blip in what has otherwise been a fine run of form that has seen them well established in the promotion race at the top of Division One.

A cup tie against a team from two leagues above them presents a different type of challenge, however, but Alport manager Luke Goddard says that everyone at the club is up for the game.

"We're really looking forward to Tuesday's semi final. Obviously we`ve had a couple of defeats in the league most recently and no game at the weekend, but this is a perfect opportunity to bounce back as the underdog again.

"We have thrived off that title, especially at the beginning of the season, when we were an unknown quantity.

"Drayton will be hot favourites, they're two leagues above ourselves and the current holders of the trophy. I have a lot of respect for Martyn Davies their manager, he does everything at Drayton and it has always baffled me why they don't get more support as they deserve it, especially people like him.

"However it's a cup match, we're Whitchurch Alport, we will travel in big numbers as a club and it's a trophy we haven't won for eight years.

"It's a competition myself and Carl Everall (Luke's fellow manager) highlighted as a "must win" while were here, so we will ensure we give it everything to win the game".

The game will be played at the neutral venue of Ellesmere Rangers’ Beech Grove ground, with kick off at 7.45 pm.
