West Didsbury & Chorlton have revealed the newest addition to the West family - though he's far from a welcome visitor.
Starting with the home game against Runcorn Linnets on the 18th February, the programme will have a new star in Penfold Pincher, who will be making appearances in a comic strip for the rest of the season.
Penfold - Penny to his pals - has two passions in life: West Didsbury & Chorlton, and making sure that he doesn't have to pay to get in to see them play! Though his plans are creative, he's yet to find one that works - and he needs suggestions as to how he could try (and, as usual, fail) to watch a West game for free - the best suggestion being brought to life and winning a West pin badge.
Penfold Pincher is the brainchild of West fan Lew Currie (http://lewcurrie.co.uk), and will feature in each programme before being made available online the following week. Speaking of the launch, Lew said, "Penfold is an evil genius, but he’s really an evil idiot. I’m interested to see how his time at West unfolds… and if he ever manages to get in for free!".
Speaking about his passion for the club, he added, "I’ve been coming down to games for a while and observing everything that goes on. I love the community at West and feel it’s important to celebrate the club - it’s players, volunteers & everyone who gives up their time to make it work."
West supporter spokesman Peter Jones said, "Whilst other teams in the league scramble to assemble the best on field talent, I feel it's a testament to West Didsbury and Chorlton AFC that we continue to push more creative endeavours. Who among us would really be comfortable winning promotion without an official club comic fully established? Lew Currie's illustration work is as important to this club as Nic Evangelinos goals and I'm excited to see the ongoing adventures of Penfold Pincher."
The cartoon strip will be on sale for the first time in the programme at home to Runcorn Linnets on Saturday 11th February, priced £2.
