Groundsman Of The Year Awards - season 2016-17

Clubs across the country are once again being invited to submit nominations for the FA Groundsman of the Year Awards for season 2016/17.
Any club wishing to nominate one of their ground staff must complete a Nomination Form for the 2016/2017 competition and submit the form to their League’s Management Committee.
In turn, the League Management Committee then examines each nomination, and nominates up to three candidates from across the League and ranks them first, second and third. The first ranked club will then go forward to the FA’s national judging stage and undergo independent adjudication.
This year’s Awards Day took place in mid-August at St George’s Park, where the nominees were given a guided tour of the site as well as a presentation from Karl Standley (Head Groundsman at Wembley Stadium) and a question and answer workshop with professional groundsmen from Southampton, Manchester City and St George’s Park.
The awards ceremony took place in the afternoon with members of The FA Facilities Committee presenting the winners with their certificates and trophies.
The winners were then invited as special guests for the England v Spain Friendly fixture in November, where they enjoyed the hospitality on offer before joining the Wembley Ground Staff on the pitch at half time.
As in previous years, there is a broad list of categories for which each nomination will be assessed, including:
Resources available & who runs the budget
Effective use of manpower & material resources
Maintenance & use of machinery
Presentation & housekeeping standards
Technical knowledge/qualifications held
For our League, clubs must send in their nominations to League Secretary John Deal by no later than 7th February, this is to allow the Management Committee to consider the nominations at their meeting on 8th February 2017.
The Management Committee will then submit their nominations to the FA.
