Stockport Town can confirm that Calum Sykes resigned as First Team Manager early on Saturday evening. Later the same day he was announced as the manager of New Mills AFC. Also departing the club will be Gareth Cross, Assistant Manager.

Jamie Kay has been appointed as Interim Manager for the next two games against Cheadle Town and City of Liverpool. The process for appointing a permanent manager is already underway.

Sykes was appointed First Team Manager in July 2014 after guiding Glossop North End Reserves to the league title. He subsequently led the Lions to a fourth place finish in NWCFL Division One in 2015/16 before the team were defeated in the playoff semi-finals.

Chairman Seb Rowe said "We would like to thank Calum and Gareth for their commitment to the club over the last few years. We wish them all the best in their new venture."

“Although the news is untimely given its the week before Christmas, the club now have the opportunity to bring in a new manager with fresh ideas. We expect the first team to be challenging for the playoff places, and the hope was to build on the success of last season, but for one reason or another that hasn't happened so far. Despite a recent turnaround in results, there is still scope for greater improvement. It has been evident that squad morale has been low, so a change in manager will hopefully give the players the boost they need to kick on.”

“We will now take steps to bring in a new management team. As was evidenced in the 2-2 draw with Holker yesterday, the club has an extremely talented group of young players who require strong leadership in order for them to fulfil their potential. The new manager will need to share the same ambitions as the board, as well as displaying drive, determination and rounded managerial skills.”
