The weather may once again have curtailed a number of fixtures, but the ones that did defy the elements put on a more than decent show for the spectators who braved the chilly weather on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

Just four ties went ahead in the Macron Cup Third Round, with both ties on Friday night delivering wins for the home sides.

Holders Atherton Collieries went out of the competition going down 3-0 at Nelson. Christopher Anderson opened the scoring for the Admirals, and Yves Zama added two more either side of half time.

In the other Friday night game, two goals in the last eight minutes from Isaac Kusaloka earned 2013 winners Ashton Athletic a 2-0 win over Runcorn Town.

The two games that went ahead on Saturday produced wins for First Division sides over Premier Division opponents.

Chadderton upset the odds with a 3-1 win over Maine Road on their own patch, Matthew Brothers, Christopher Pauley and Luke Heron putting Chaddy three up before Road reduced the deficit late on.

At Keighley Road, 90 minutes of action failed to produce a goal in the game between Silsden and 1874 Northwich, but a Nicholas McNally goal in the 105th minute booked a place in the quarter final for the Cobbydalers.

Two games took place in the Premier Division, with the home side victorious in each instance.

Dominic Craig, James Dean twice and skipper Martin Parkes were on target for Padiham in the 4-0 win over Cammell Laird 1907, and goals in each half from Jamie Gibson and Ryan Riley ensured the points for Squires Gate and a 2-0 win over New Mills.

In the First Division, Whitchurch Alport extended their lead at the top of the table to two points despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Cheadle Town at Yockings Park.

The fog that lingered over Cheshire for most of the afternoon eventually won the day at the Sandbach United v Charnock Richard game, which was abandoned in the 74th minute with Charnock Richard leading 3-1. Charnock therefore stay in third place without narrowing the gap between themselves and the top two, while Sandbach remain 6th.

A first half goal from Jamie Pattinson earned Holker Old Boys a 1-0 win over Litherland REMYCA, who remain in 5th place, and FC Oswestry Town continued their recent good form with a fourth successive win taking them to within two points of the play off places.

Dave Hartshorn struck the decisive goal six minutes into the second half to earn the Shropshire side a 1-0 win at Atherton LR.

Carlisle City leapfrogged over Daisy Hill into 9th place with a 2-1 win at New Sirs. A Tom Lucock penalty and a second goal from Mark Graham put the Cumbrians in the driving seat before Curtis Cummins reduced the arrears.

A Dean Ing goal eight minutes from time sealed a valuable 1-0 for AFC Blackpool at Prestwich Heys, and arguably the game of the day involved the bottom two sides in the division, with Eccleshall edging out Ashton Town with a last minute winner to grab a 5-4 win at Pershall Park.

Town were 3-1 up just after half time, Eccleshall then moved 4-3 ahead, but Joshua Ackers appeared to have earned Town a point with an 84th minute equaliser.

But a second goal of the game for Jamie Mountford in the 90th minute snatched victory at the death for Eccleshall, giving new manager Jamie Cullerton his first win since taking charge.
