Coaches from around the Merseyside and North Cheshire area came together at the Liverpool County FA last night for the Hallmark Security League Coaching Workshop, hosted by Andy Nelson.

Over 20 coaches from a number of clubs, not just from the Hallmark Security League but from National League, down to Grassroots level met for the Theory session which addresses a number of issues not cvered by the current FA Level 1 or Level 2 Coaching courses.  This of course formed a core part of its appeal, as does that fact that Andy is a UEFA A Licenced Course Tutor and is running the Workshop from the template of a Course formerly sponsored by the FA which is unique and devised by Andy himself.

Over the course of the session Andy discussed issues such as Recent coaching updates, expectations from a League's perspectives i.e why certain standards are in place and why they are enforced.  The feedback on these issues was two-way and as there were three League representatives in the room we ourselves came away with feedback and valid issues that we will need to address.  Also raised were issues on Sportsmanship, The FA Respect Campaign, Dugout protocol inclusing issues of what is perceived by Officials, fans and observers alike but in the discussion groups formed on this a number of issues were raised and debated and gave food for thought.

We were also joined by Referee Assessor and Current Liverpool County FA Welfare Officer, Gordon Johnson who gave a valuable session on recent Rule Changes, Officials protocol, Safeguarding issues relating from a County FA Perspective as well as fielding questions about recent high profile incidents.  This was well received by the attendees and everyone in the training room seemed to appreciate Gordon's input, the pens were wagging aplenty on a number of the issues addressed.

Also in the room was Steve Leather and his team from Coaching management app, Hudl who gave a demonstration on their product which makes training and game feedback accessible via the app and that too seemed to raise eyebrows and received a favorable reception.

The final session of the evening was specifically regarding updated coaching and tactical techniques and this brought together the coaches from all levels in strong discussion.

We would like to thank everyone who attended last nights theory session, we hope that it was interesting and useful to you, the next session which is the pracical, takes place next Monday evening (21st November) on the superb Liverpool County FA Pitch with a 6pm start. It would be great to see as many of the coaches come for the practical and there are still spaces available too if anyone else fancies coming along.  Again, it's based on individual and unique coaching updates so will be well worth attending so if anyone else would like to come along on the evening, do get in touch with Gary Langley via email and we will add you to the list.

Last but not least, a bit thank you to Dave Pugh and all at the Liverpool County FA for supplying us with a great facility for staging the evening and for their time in staying on to ensure that we all got the most from the session.  The training suite there has had a recent refurb and has superb coaching tools and a high spec IT and presentation facility, which is soon to be avilable to hire too!

A good night all-round and we look forward to the practical session and also further on from that to taking the Workshop over to the Manchester FA on 28th November.
