Bucks to the wall defending
On these pages in recent weeks we have noted the goalscoring form of Bootle, with their goals per game ratio being the best in the league.
However, it’s also worth noting that the Bucks’ defence is also playing a part in recent success, with Saturday’s clean sheet at Padiham being their fifth in six games – and the game in that run where they did concede was a 7-1 win at Hanley Town.
Manager Joe Doran is delighted with his tight-fisted defence.
“Earlier in the season we were losing too many goals, but over the last four or five weeks we’ve really tightened up in that area”, he said.
“It’s only through hard work on the training pitch, organisation and a bit of belief instilled into the players that sorted that side of our game out”.
Barrow Load of goals for Chadderton
It’s a journey of around 100 miles from Chadderton’s ARK Fleetech Stadium to Rakesmoor Lane in Barrow-in-Furness, home of Holker Old Boys, but it’s a journey that Chaddy don’t seem to mind making.
Two weeks ago, Chaddy made the trip and won 6-3 in a Macron Cup tie, and then on Saturday, they also won by a margin of three goals, with a 4-1 victory in a league encounter.
Ten goals in two away games is a decent return and for good measure, Chaddy also won 3-2 in the league game between the two sides on 15th October. The Cumbrians will be pleased they have seen the last of Mark Howard’s men this season.
Daisy delight
Daisy Hill didn’t have a game on Saturday, but manager Craig Thomas will no doubt be delighted with the form his side are showing at the minute.
Daisy have lost just once in seven games, have three wins from the last four, and are rattling the goals in too, with the 5-3 defeat of Holker Old Boys last Monday being the second times in the space of the last few weeks that they have scored five in a game.
Throw in the form of goalkeeper Craig Haynes, who won the Goalkeeper of the Month award for October, and it’s looking blooming good for Daisy right now.
All change at Barnton
All of a sudden, there is a spring in the step of everyone at Barnton, whose recent form has been a revelation.
After halting a morale shattering run of eight successive defeats in mid-October, there’s been something stirring in the Villagers, with Saturday’s draw at home to Congleton Town continuing a run of form that has seen them lose just twice in the last eight games.
Barnton boss Steve Lloyd observed on Twitter after Saturday’s game that it was “a game we would have definitely lost 6 weeks ago”, so there’s obviously something in the water there at the moment.
Happiness is an away point for Hanley
Although Hanley Town are sitting handily in 7th place in the Premier Division, it’s fair to say that recent away form has been disappointing, with three straight defeats on the road going into Saturday’s game at Squires Gate.
No doubt everyone in the Hanley camp will be disappointed at only picking up a point on the Fylde coast in a 4-4 draw, after being 4-2 ahead with 12 minutes to go, but with only one away win since mid-September, it will be viewed as a good point down Abbey Lane way.
