Reusch Division One Cup - Round 1 Preview

It's a busy weekend on all fronts for the Hallmark Security League with most clubs in action over the coming weekend.  This Saturday sees the Reusch Division One Cup take the limelight as twelve clubs take part in first round fixtures over the course of the next two days.

Starting on Saturday, AFC Blackpool host Carlisle City at the Mechanics Ground with the Lancashire side looking to reverse a league result that saw City beat them 2-3 at the same ground back in mid August. Without a win in their last seven in all competitions Blackpool will be keen to muster a morale boosting win.  City are actually in slightly worse form at present with seven straight defeats in all competitions, however with slightly better form earlier in the season they are better placed than their hosts in the league table at present.

Prestwich Heys make their debut in the competition since their return to the league and they welcome Litherland REMYCA to Adie Moran Park.  Heys have won four of their last six in all competitions and have been improving as the season has progressed with strong performances on the park. REMYCA are two without a win since their eight in a row winning streak came to an end at Stockport Town last week but they have a near full squad to choose from as they look to progress in a competition they did well in last season.

Ashton Town could do with a cup run to take their mind off their disappointing start in the league but they face a tough trip to Rakesmoor and Holker Old Boys as they look to get some cup form going.  Towns for has been on the up of late with two wins in their last four and they have been in cup games.  They are yet to win on the road this season but for them now would be a welcome reversal of fortune.  Holker have had a fairly reasonable start to the season but have found wins hard to come by having to grind out their wins on their own park.  They will be looking to put memories of the 2-5 home defeat to Cheadle Town last week behind them.  They normally do ok in this competition and are many persons dark horses to lift it.

Bacup Borough host Chadderton at the Brian Boys West View Stadium in a tough looking battle of two strong sides. Bacup have arrested a rare run of bad form early on with two decent looking wins recently beating both Eccleshall and Daisy Hill on the road.  Chadderton have lost their last two against Silsden and Whitchurch Alpert and they will be looking at one of the cups to bring them cheer as they contemplate their intermittent league form.

Another club looking for a distraction from league issues are Eccleshall as they host Stockport Town at Pershall Park.  They have really struggled form this campaign and will be looking for a cup run to bring them some cheer.  They face a tough test though in Stockport Town who after a slow start are starting to find form, three wins in their last five in all competitions and popping in 18 goals in the process.

The last of this weekends Reusch Division cup first round games takes place on Sunday as a resurgent Widnes who have their tails up under new Manager Joey Dunn travel to Park Hall to face FC Oswestry Town.  Unbeaten in their last three games with fourteen goals scored the travelling clearly doesn't faze Widnes as last time out they demolished high flying Whitchurch Alport 5-2 at Yockings Park.  This probably won't concern tournament dubutantes Oswestry too much as they know where the net is themselves having been in some great games over the last month or so.
