Due to the Reusch First Division Cup 1st Round, there are only 5 Saturday fixtures from an original eleven. However, there are some exciting encounters in store for a fascinating day of First Division football.

Alsager Town vs St Helens Town

Alsager are the last remaining unbeaten side in both of the divisions, and have the potential to move to the top of the table if they claim victory in their games in hand. However, the Bullets have lost both their previous matches, in both the FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round and Macron Challenge Cup 1st round, but their league form could suggest a good performance on Saturday. They face a St Helens Town side that are on the up after 4 games unbeaten, following a 3 game losing streak. They defeated Premier Division side AFC Darwen in the Macron Challenge Cup 1st Round last week, after being 2 down in the first 6 minutes. This game has the potential to go either way.

Atherton LR vs Whitchurch Alport

Atherton LR sit towards the wrong end of the table, in 19th with 1 win in their previous 5 matches, however this was an upset in the FA Vase with a 3-2 victory over Premier Division outfit Cammell Laird 1907. With the table so close at the bottom, they could easily move up the positions with a good result against Whitchurch Alport. Whitchurch have completed transformed their fortunes from last season after finishing bottom in the previous campaign. They sit 3rd in the table, 3 points off the leaders City of Liverpool. They will be looking to get back on track after a resounding 5-2 defeat on Tuesday against a rejuvenated Widnes side.

Charnock Richard vs Cheadle Town

Charnock Richard are sitting pretty in 2nd place in the division after a tremendous start to their first campaign as a First Division side. They’ve embarked on an impressive 5 game winning streak which has saw them advance in 2 competitions and included a fantastic victory against Northern Premier League Division 1 side Bamber Bridge in the FA Vase. Travelling to Mossie Park are Cheadle Town, who seem to have let their impressive cup run get the better of them. They suffered a winless September, however defeated Holker Old Boys 5-2 on Saturday, could October be an improvement?

City of Liverpool FC vs Daisy Hill

League leaders City of Liverpool FC have enjoyed a near flawless start to life in the division, however their form has slipped in recent matches with a run of two defeats in a row. They stay top after a last gasp winner against FC Oswestry Town on Tuesday, which could be a sign of potential champions. Daisy Hill inflicted a first defeat of the season on Saturday’s opponents just over a month ago, which seemed to be the catalyst to kick start their season. However, they are currently on a 4 game winless run, but two of these were against higher division opposition so interpret that stat at your leisure. Could lightning strike twice on Saturday?

Sandbach United vs Silsden

This clash could on paper would be the most evenly fought contest of the weekend as both sides sit around the play off places. Sandbach United are only outside the playoffs on goal difference and are on a good run of form, with only one loss to their name in September. Silsden themselves were on a rich vein of league form before this was halted by league leaders City of Liverpool on Saturday, a result that is nothing to lose sleep over, seeing as how well they are doing in the league. A win for either of these clubs would propel them to the forefront of the playoff picture.
