New defibrillator at Bootle

Bootle Football Club has announced it has raised the necessary funds needed to purchase a lifesaving defibrillator for the club.
Over 30,000 cardiac arrests happen out of hospital in the UK every year but currently less than one in ten people survive. Only recently, Daniel Wilkinson, 26, of Shaw Lane AFC sadly collapsed on the field of play and unfortunately passed away on 12th September.
This staggering statistic and unfortunate event prompted the club to look at the facilities it provides not only on a match day, but to the astro turf training facility that is visited by some 400 players of all ages per week.
The club felt it needed to have the necessary equipment on hand to assist in any unforeseen medical situation, and to help provide the best possible care we can until full medical assistance can be provided by the authorities.
And after just 13 days of the club starting its appeal, it has now reached its target of £1500, and would like to place on record a heartfelt thanks to all who donated to the fund and helped secure this life saving piece of equipment.
In addition, Bootle FC would also like to make a personal thank you to Marine Football Club who donated £500 to the fund. A top class gesture from a top class club.
The club now plans to have the defibrillator on site at the Delta Taxis Stadium in the coming weeks, and will make a further announcement once the equipment is installed.
Speaking on the success of the scheme, fund organiser and Bootle committee member John Callaghan said: “Once again the local community has risen to support a much needed piece of potentially lifesaving equipment.
“Fellow clubs, spectators and local businesses have all come together to ensure that when visiting Bootle FC, whether socially or in a sporting sense, that they have the best facilities possible available to them. A HUGE thank you to all those who contributed.’’
Bootle Chairman Bobby Capstick added: “This vital piece of equipment that could prove to be the difference between life and death and it’s a welcome addition to our club and its community. I can’t believe what has been achieved in a small space of time it’s absolutely amazing a massive thank you goes to who everyone who donated.”
