Premier Division Preview - Saturday 1st October 2016

With the Macron Cup taking Centre stage this weekend there are only a few Hallmark Security Football League Premier Division games taking place this weekend.  With midweek games meaning that the league is already wide open again the results of these games could have a direct impact on the top and bottom of the table.

Starting at the Kensite Arena as Atherton Collieries could get to within a point of top of the pile 1874 Northwich if they defeat Maine Road on Saturday.  Colls home form has been fairly decent this season but Maine Road have found a rich vein of form with four straight league wins including scoring seventeen goals in their last three games.  Their last win was on Monday night in an early contender for game of the season as they defeated Bootle, the score being 1-1 with just a minute on the clock was an early indicator on how that game was going to go.  Not an easy game for either side.

At the Abbey Stadium, Abbey Hey host an improving Hanley Town as both clubs seek a win which could put either side on the periphery of the top six.  Abbey Hey won in midweek at Barnton that lifted them into mid-table and they have been playing some good football of late but Hanley Town, currently in tenth also play some decent stuff and have been there or thereabouts in the top ten since the season started.

The last game of the day looks like a cracker as Bootle Host Runcorn Town at the Delta Taxi's Stadium with the hosts still reeling from that extraordinary game at Maine Road in midweek.  Joe Doran's team ended their run of seven straight wins in all competitions in that game but will face a tough challenge to starting that run again.  Sixth placed Town are separated from Bootle only on goal difference in the table and depending on the result in Atherton either of these sides could go second in the table if they win.
