Division One Preview - Saturday 24th September

Division One has seen a plethora of goals already this season and we are still only in mid September, this was summed up perfectly with an enthralling game at Litherland Sports Park in midweek when Remyca edged out Widness by the odd goal in an eleven goal thriller.  That was the fourt Division one game with nine or more goals split between the two sides.  With the FA Vase Second Qualifying round taking centre stage this weekend it would be easy to overlook the fact that there are still a number of League games taking place.  Clubs in the thick of things top, middle and bottom of the table are in action as another opportunity to get points and climb up the table presents itself.

Starting this weekend at Yockings Park where a rejuvenated Whitchurch Alport host Sandbach United.  Alport have really hit the ground running this season having had a busy summer in both personnel and mindset.  In their last six games they are one defeat and five wins and are certainly one of the form sides at the moment and caught the eye last weekend with a rather impressive 3-2 win on the road over Charnock Richard.

After a tentative Start, Sandbach United have ploughed through the league table and sit nicely on the edge of the top six.  They have won seven of their last ten games but came slightly unstuck in midweek when they lost 1-3 away at Alsager Town.  Neither of these sides have drawn any of their games this season so you can see how this one is likely to end!

Over at Volair Park, St Helens Town continue their short tennancy at the Prescot facility whilst finishing touches are applied to their new home at Ruskin Drive as they welcome FC Oswestry Town.  One has to wonder if the return to their home town has distracted St Helens somewhat as their form this season has been completely out of character.  Just two wins in all competitions this season and they were on the road at Remyca and Charnock Richard, currently sitting in 18th in the table they will be looking for a swift upturn if they are to have any hope of catching the play-off pack who are already eleven points adrift.

Oswestry have settled in well to life at Step six and are unbeaten in their last three games in all competitions but seem to travel better than playing at home at this point.  Their last two league games have been away wins at Bacup and Stockport Town, not easy places to go at the best of times, although neutrals will be hoping for a repeat of their last home league game, the epic 6-6 draw against Silsden.

Another new side who have settled in well are Prestwich Heys, they are on the periphary of the top six and have been fairly solid in their return to this level.  Heys host fellow newcomers Carlisle City who's start has arguably been satisfying for them, even though their impact has been slightly less, they are currently sitting in mid-table on a run of five straight defeats in all competitions.  This game should produce goals with Prestwich having netted eleven in their last three games and Carlisle City only having drawn a blank once all season.

Our final previewed game this week is Cheadle Town Vs Eccleshall.  Cheadle Town's start has been very similar to that of St Helens Town, much anticipated an expected from them but they just havent found their feet yet this season and curretly sit in 19th place.  With the play-off pack thirteen points ahead of them Terry Hincks' team will be looking to pull their finger out and get upwardly mobile and they will look at the league table and see this as their opportunity to do that.

Eccleshall are in the midst of a rotten run of form, they currently prop the table up having two points from their ten games with a goal difference of -28 its arguably fairly easy to see where their problems lie.  They will be looking to put last weekends 7-1 away defeat to Stockport behind them and to get their season started.

That concludes this weekend's Division One preview, as you can see every club has a lot to play for and despite the league table starting to take a clear shape, this wekends games can really turn things around for a number of clubs if they bag the points.  With a number of County Cup tournament games scheduled over the next week and the Macron Cup games starting next wekend there is scope for a number of clubs to make some headway in the league table over the coming couple of weeks.
