Over half the league's clubs were in cup action in the FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round at the weekend, alongside some interesting games in both divisions.
There were four FA Vase ties that paired clubs from our league together on Saturday, and in three of the four games the home sides emerged victorious.
Two goals from Steve Jones helped Bootle to a 4-1 win over Maine Road at the Delta Taxis Stadium, while Runcorn Town beat Winsford United by the same score at the Pavilions.
An 80th minute winner from Taylor Attrell saw Alsager Town through to a 2-1 win against Squires Gate, and after being two goals down after 12 minutes at St Helens Town, Chadderton staged an impressive comeback to eventually win 5-3.
On Sunday, a late goal from Colin McDonald clinched a 2-1 win for Litherland REMYCA at City of Liverpool, after Remy had been behind at the break.
Elsewhere, a second half hat trick from Joseph Gaughan was the highlight of Barnoldswick Town's 4-0 win at Darlington Railway Athletic, and four other clubs also won away ties at clubs from outside our league.
Two goals from James Kirby proved to be decisive in earning Congleton Town a 3-2 win at Armthorpe Welfare, first half goals from Ross Wilson and player-manager James Gill saw Silsden through to a 2-1 win at Knaresborough Town, and goals in the last 13 minutes from Jason McShane and Kevin Towey earned Widnes a 2-0 win at Maltby Main.
On Sunday, goals from Samuel Parkinson and Carl Grimshaw earned Charnock Richard a 2-0 win at Whickham.
Five clubs won home ties against clubs from other leagues, Daisy Hill catching the eye with a 4-1 win over Garforth Town, in which Ashley Stott scored twice.
A single goal from Christian Lawlor settled Irlam's 1-0 win over Selby Town, and Ashton-in-Makerfield hosted two Vase ties a mile apart, with Athletic winning 2-0 against Athersley Recreation, and two penalties from Jordan Holmes helping Town to a 4-2 win over Parkgate.
Barnton needed extra time to eventually get the better of Harworth Colliery, with Lee Vaughan and Chris Smith both scoring twice in a game that ended 5-2 after the sides were tied at 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes.
However, both of our Shropshire clubs saw their Vase ties end with home defeats after extra time, FC Oswestry Town going down 3-1 to Walsall Wood, and Whitchurch Alport lost 2-1 at home to Wellington.
Carlisle City's first ever Vase game ended with a 2-1 home defeat to Team Northumbria and AFC Darwen suffered the same result at home to Pickering Town, as did Nelson at home to Heaton Stannington
Cheadle Town failed to repeat their early season FA Cup in the Vase, losing 1-0 at Staveley Miners Welfare, and Eccleshall had a day to forget at Brocton, losing 6-0.
There were five games in the Premier Division, and Atherton Collieries now head the table on goal difference from 1874 Northwich following their 4-1 win over Cammell Laird 1907 at the Kensite Stadium,
Mark Battersby leading a second half revival with two goals after Colls had been a goal down at the break and reduced to ten men.
1874 Northwich are tucked in behind Colls after their 4-1 home win over West Didsbury & Chorlton, with Scott McGowan continuing his recent good goalscoring form with two more goals, getting his name on the scoresheet for the fifth game in succession.
A second half goal from Antony Hickey was enough to earn Runcorn Linnets a 1-0 win at Abbey Hey to move them up into fifth place, and five different scorers got on the scoresheet for Hanley Town in their 5-1 win at Padiham.
In the other games, goals from Jason Carey, Freddy Champion and Paul Speed earned AFC Liverpool a 3-1 at New Mills.
Three games took place in the First Division, and Prestwich Heys moved to within a point of the play off places with an 5-0 win at AFC Blackpool, Daniel Wight and Ashley Reece both scoring twice.
Connor Sutton scored the only goal of the game for Sandbach United in their 1-0 win against Bacup Borough, and Stockport Town shared a 2-2 draw with Holker Old Boys at the Stockport Sports Village.
