Goals galore and talking points a-plenty emerged from the games across both divisions on Saturday.
In the Premier Division, Runcorn Town hit the top of the table with a 2-0 win at Abbey Hey, Craig Cairns getting both goals in the space of four first half minutes.
Previous leaders Irlam fell to their first defeat of the season at Runcorn Linnets, two goals from Mark Houghton helping the home side to a 4-1 win.
A blistering start by Atherton Collieries put them 4-1 up at Barnton after just 27 minutes, eventually winning 5-2 to move into third place, and they are level on points with West Didsbury & Chorlton who won 1-0 at home to Padiham thanks to an 87th minute strike from Rick Gleave.
A cluster of teams sit on nine points, headed by Bootle who beat Winsford United 5-1, Steve Jones scoring twice.
Aaron Hollindrake scored twice in Barnoldswick Town's 4-1 home win over New Mills, as did Scott McGowan for 1874 Northwich's 3-0 home win over AFC Darwen.
Congleton Town came from behind to eventually edge past Squires Gate with a 3-2 win, Declan Fletcher getting the decisive gaol with 18 minutes left.
The only hat trick of the day came at Brocstedes Park, where Isaac Kusaloka grabbed a treble in Ashton Athletic's 3-2 victory over Hanley Town, and two goals in the first five minutes from Matthew Morgan and Michael Burke were decisive in Maine Road's 2-1 win at AFC Liverpool.
The only goalless game of the day was at the North West Construction Stadium where Cammell Laird 1907 and Nelsonboth drew a blank.
In the First Division, Alsager Town edged ahead of City of Liverpool on goal difference at the top of the table with a 2-0 win at Atherton LR. Kyle Stubbs and Michael Lennon were on target for the Bullets in the last 16 minutes.
City of Liverpool lost their place at the top after goals in the last ten minutes from AFC Blackpool's Ashley Rowley and Jack Williams ensured the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Whitchurch Alport followed up their midweek win at Oswestry with another good away day, winning 5-1 at Stockport Town, with Simon Everall and Alex Hughes both scoring twice.
Two early goals from Neil Harvey set Widnes on the way to a 3-1 win at Eccleshall, and highest scorers of the day were Carlisle City, with Michael Reed scoring a hat trick in their 6-2 success against Daisy Hill at Gillford Park.
Liam Molloy was on target twice for FC Oswestry Town in their 4-1 win at Cheadle Town, and four different scorers hit the back of the net for Bacup Borough in the 4-0 victory at home to Ashton Town.
Phil Williams scored in each half in St Helens Town's 3-1 victory at Charnock Richard, and Prestwich Heys won by the same score at Sandbach United.
William Storrie's second half goal proved to be decisive for securing Silsden's 3-2 win at home to Holker Old Boys, and Chadderton and Litherland REMYCA shared the points in a 1-1 draw.
