The weekend programme comprised ties in the Emirates F.A Cup Preliminary Round for 13 of our clubs, as well as fixtures in both the Premier and First Divisions.

In the FA Cup, Cheadle Town achieved the standout result of the day, winning 4-2 at Northwich Victoria of the Evo-Stik League. Michael Sherrington was on target twice for Town, who now face a trip to Trafford in the next round.

Equally impressive were Winsford United, who won 6-1 at Alsager Town in one of the two all-Hallmark Security League ties, Nathan Cotterell and Kyle Riley both scoring twice for the Blues who now face a trip to Whitby Town.

In the other tie featuring two of our clubs, Squires Gate clinched a home tie against Handsworth Parramore after their 3-2 win at West Didsbury & Chorlton, and Maine Road won by the same score at home to AFC Emley to earn a trip to Burscough in the next round.

1874 Northwich face a midweek replay at home to Colne after a 2-2 draw at the XLCR Stadium, Sam Hind with both goals for the Greens.  Likewise, Ashton Athletic also face a home midweek replay, after a 2-2 draw at Worksop Town on Sunday.

For six clubs, the cup journey ended. Padiham lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle Benfield, Bootle lost at Pontefract Collieries by the same score, and Cammell Laird 1907 lost 4-0 at Hyde FC.

Atherton Collieries conceded three goals in the opening 16 minutes of their tie at home to Witton Albion, eventually losing 3-1, Congleton Town had to a day to forget in losing 6-0 at home to Farsley Celtic, and Nelson lost 4-1 at home to Bishop Auckland.

In the Premier Division, Irlam are top after an early Gareth Mooney goal gave them a 1-0 home win over Barnoldswick Town.

Haydn Foulds and Daniel Douglas-Pringle both scored twice for New Mills in their 6-1 win over Barnton, and Runcorn Town earned local bragging rights with a 3-1 win over Runcorn Linnets in the derby clash at the Pavilions, with goals from Daniel Jarrett, Craig Cairns and Jack Irlam.

Abbey Hey were delayed in travelling to Hanley Town, and it didn't do them much good in the end as two goals from Dan Cope helped the home side to a 3-0 win.

Two of the league's new boys occupy the top two places in Division One, with City of Liverpool top after a 4-2 win over Stockport Town on Friday night, in which Daley Woods scored the club's first hat trick in a competitive game.

Goals in each half from David Burrows and Mitchell Leece ensured a 2-0 win for Charnock Richard at Whitchurch Alport, and Holker Old Boysmoved into third place after a 4-1 win over Eccleshall, in which Jamie Pattinson scored twice.

Atherton LR's Andy Miller had a day to remember, scoring four times in LR's 5-3 win at Chadderton, and Kevin Towey grabbed all three goals for Widnes in the 3-1 win at FC Oswestry Town.

Dylan Hodkinson scored twice to help Ashton Town to their first win of the season, 3-0 at home to AFC Blackpool, and Paul Tierney scored both Prestwich Heys goals in their 2-0 win over Silsden.

Sandbach United came from behind to snatch a last gasp 3-2 win at home to Daisy Hill, Alfred Hammond scoring the winner in the 90th minute, and Andy Gillespie's 70th minute goal proved to be decisive for St Helens Town in their 2-1 win at Litherland REMYCA.

The only goalless game was at Gillford Park where both goalkeepers claimed a clean sheet in the clash between Carlisle City and Bacup Borough.
