Bootle FC Manager Joe Doran has been celebrating after claiming the Sefton Sports Volunteer of the Year Award.

Joe fought off five other nominees to claim the award at the council's Annual Sports Awards night at the Southport Theatre.

Speaking on stage after collecting his award Doran said: "It's really nice to win the award - but as a volunteer it's not really why I get up at on a Saturday or Sunday morning, or turn up at the ground at 4 o'clock in the morning when the alarms going off.

"For me, it's not about the awards it's more to do with the people you meet along the way and the relationships that you build that make it worthwhile."

Fellow Bootle FC Committee member Connor O'Neill added: "As a club we are delighted all Joe's hard-work and commitment has been rewarded.

"The hours he puts in not only as manager, but also as club secretary and treasurer are incredible, especially considering he works full time too. So for him to recognised is absolutely fantastic for the club."
