Runcorn Linnets have commissioned a new enamel pin badge to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the club's formation.

Runcorn Linnets FC was born on 28 April 2006, after predecessor club Runcorn AFC intimated that it would not be fielding a team in the following season.

Fans of the former club met in the spiritual home of Runcorn football, in the Quayside function rooms next door to the old Canal Street, on which the Linnets Park housing estate now stands.  They voted to form the new club, which joined the North West Counties League for the 2006-07 season.

The badges were issued in a limited edition of 100 pieces, and the design features a 2006-2016 anniversary version of the club crest, specially devised by Linnets Trust Board member, Mark Buckley.

The new badges were produced by Terry Hall of Oxfordshire-based Terry’s Badges.

Terry is a regular home and away fan of another Supporters Trust-owned club, AFC Wimbledon, and is an avid collector of English non-league team badges, designing and producing them for hundreds of non-league clubs.

Terry runs a stall selling badges on match days outside the AFC Wimbledon ground in Kingston upon Thames, and at football memorabilia fairs nationwide.

Runcorn Linnets Chairman, Derek Greenwood said: “The club has achieved much in a relatively short time and it is only right that we should mark and celebrate the progress we have made on and off the field.

“The 10th anniversary logo designed by Mark Buckley is very striking and hopefully, this will also soon be seen on a new change kit, which we intend to launch as part of our commemorations - in time for the 2016-17 season.

“These are exciting times for the club in playing terms, through our continued success at junior and senior levels, and with the retail and leisure developments planned for outside our ground, our position at the heart of the local community will only be strengthened.”

The badges were on sale for the first time at Saturday’s home game against Squires Gate, and sold out on the day.
