Runcorn Town Football Club have announced that current First Team Manager Simon Burton will be leaving the club at the end of the current season.

Simon was appointed manager at the start of the 2009/10 season when the club was in the West Cheshire League, guiding the club to a third place finish and with it promotion to the North West Counties League. He then achieved a second successive promotion from the First Division and we have been consistently amongst the leading clubs in the Premier Division ever since.

As well as the league, Simon has taken the team to the Last 16 of the FA Vase as well as the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. His teams have also set numerous club records over the last few years, some of which may never be broken.

The search is now underway for Simon's replacement, although he will remain at the club until the end of the 2015/16 season along with the existing backroom team.

Runcorn Town Chairman Tony Riley said: "On behalf of the Committee I would like to thank Simon for everything he has done for Runcorn Town."

"We have shared some fantastic moments together at the club that will never be forgotten, and we wish him all the best for the future."

"Simon departs Pavilions with the Club’s very best wishes together with enormous gratitude in recognition of his achievements during his seven years in charge, and the committee wishes to place on record its thanks for the work undertaken by Simon and his management teams for his work at the club since his appointment."

"We had hoped Simon would join us in our ultimate aim of achieving Evostik League football, but our attention must now turn to finding the next man for the job."

Simon Burton added: "It is with sadness that I have made the decision to step down from my position as first team manager of Runcorn Town. I have had seven fantastic seasons as manager and as a club we created so many unbelievable memories that will last a life time.”

“I'd like to put on record my thanks to the committee who have been very supportive during my tenure but especially like to thank Chairman Tony Riley who has backed me all the way and Steve Kinsella who made everything run so smoothly in the background. Runcorn Town will always have a special place in my heart and I wish the club and the supporters every success in the future."

A statement on applications for the managers position will be made shortly.
