Runcorn Linnets received a second successive Charter Standard Club of the Year award from the Cheshire County Football Association at a gala presentation evening.

This time the accolade went to the club’s junior section, whose treasurer Stuart Graham and junior secretary Ciaran Clotworthy, also a member of the Trust Board, received the award from Cheshire FA vice-chairman Terry Harrop and McDonalds franchisee Paul Griffiths.

Ciaran and Stuart subsequently joined club vice chairman Hedley Edwards before kick-off at Linnets’ first-team home game against Atherton Collieries in showing the award certificate to supporters.

Stuart Graham said: “Well done to everyone at the club, our continued success off the field is testament to the commitment shown by all of our junior players and backroom staff.

“On behalf of the club, I'd just like to say that the other nominees mentioned are all great clubs and it's an honour to be given specific recognition. We will continue to strive to be an extremely well run club, for the players, the parents, the carers, the staff and the fans alike."

More than 40 awards were presented to deserving grassroots heroes during Cheshire FA's third annual awards evening which celebrated the hard work, dedication and perseverance of volunteers in football throughout the county.

The evening was hosted by sponsors of the event, Carden Park Hotel and compared by sports broadcaster, Ray Stubbs, with both Cheshire FA and FA Awards presented.
