Food Bank Collection at 1874
Tue 17th February 2015 | 1874 Northwich | By Ian Templeman
1874 Northwich have organised a collection for The Mid Cheshire Food Bank at this Saturday's game at home to Silsden.
The Food Bank is run in partnership with local churches in the Mid-Cheshire area, which encompasses Winsford, Rudheath and Northwich, and relies on donations of in date food and toiletries to help local people in crisis.
At the Barton Stadium this Saturday, 1874 Chairman Paul Stockton is providing his trailer for use as a collection point for donations, and anyone attending the game is encouraged to make a contribution.
The event has been the brainchild of 1874 supporter Phil Burgess, and board member Brian Edge says that the club were more than happy to support his suggestion.
"As a totally fans run Football Club, 1874 Northwich pride themselves on listening to their supporters and always welcome any ideas, thoughts and comments from them", he said.
"Wherever possible, we look to introduce ideas that may also be of benefit to the local community as well as the football club.
"Phil Burgess is an excellent example of a fan working tirelessly when he can to support the club and the community.
"Last season Phil suggested that we hold a “Bring a Mate Day” in an effort to increase the number of supporters at 1874’s home games and the result was absolutely outstanding, as our highest gate of 541 watched the game v Formby on the 28th September 2013.
"When Phil has an idea we sit up and listen, and as a result, his idea for 1874 supporters to try and help others by simply helping to support the Mid Cheshire Food Bank has started to take off and we do anticipate that there will be considerable support from 1874 supporters on Saturday.
"Phil’s day job is very much involved with Risk Assessment, so we are more than happy to leave all the necessary arrangements in his capable hands.
"All that is needed now is contributions from 1874 fans, players & management plus the usual support from the happy bunch of boys and girls who cannot do enough to help their football club in any way".
