Winsford United are about to start work on new changing room facilities, which are specifically intended for use by female match officials.

The club has been assisted with the project by Winsford Town Council, who are subsidising the cost of the new development.

Blues Secretary Bob Astles said: "Although they are few and far between at present, there are a growing number of female officials on the FA List. Indeed, in a couple of weeks when we visit AFC Blackpool, a lady referee will be in charge.

"The changing room will be located in the area where the Women’s Toilet is currently, in the area at the rear of the Hospitality Room and Press Office.

"The room will contain a new shower and toilet together with a sink, a bench and everything else needed for a changing room. The work is due to begin next week so the finished room should be in use in a couple of weeks’ time.

"We see this as a forward-looking step by the club, and we are delighted that the Town Council has elected to back us with this important project".
