Division One North sees a number of fascinating fixtures this weekend and with League Leaders, Golcar United not having a fixture, nor second placed Bury AFC, it is a chance for that chasing pack to make some headway.

AFC Blackpool are in pole position to challenge, they are on the same amount of points at the leaders and have a home game this weekend against Chadderton. The Mechanics have been intermittent at home of late although they did beat Ilkley last time out. Chadderton have only one defeat in their last four league games so will prove a tough challenge if Blackpool are to top the table by the end of the day.

Pilkington are also in the hunt, they face a journey to the Handmark Engineering Stadium to take on Holker Old Boys who themselves are flying at the moment with only one defeat in their last nine games, that being a home defeat to Nelson a fortnight ago. Pilkington are a place above Holker in the form table, in equally good condition with only two defeats in their last eleven in all competitions.

The top five have put a small gap between themselves and sixth place Ashton Town, but Town will be keen to try and reign them back as they host Steeton this weekend. Town returned to winning ways last weekend with a 3-2 at home to Darwen, a relief after successive defeats. Steeton’s tough start has been well documented but signs were starting to be encouraging in their last game with an important 3-0 home win over Cleator Moor Celtic, a much needed shot in the arm (vaccination pun not intended).

Bacup and South Liverpool are also part of that chasing pack and both of those clubs are on the road this weekend facing St Helens Town and Campion respectively.

Looking at the clubs needing to get quick points, Cleator Moor Celtic currently prop up the table although they have played a few games less than the rivals around them, they travel to fellow strugglers, Ilkley Town this weekend. AFC Darwen are also in that group near the bottom and they host a tough looking Nelson side at the WEC Group Anchor Ground. Atherton LR are just above the pack and they will be looking at their game at Garstang as a massive opportunity to stay out of trouble if they can haul in the points – a tough ask, as Garstang will be keen to get back into that promotion chasing pack.
