A busy seven days of football starts this weekend with three full sets of fixtures to be played between the next couple of Saturdays, inclusive.

This weekend sees a challenging looking weather forecast but with a plethora of excellent pitches in the region we are hopeful that we can get most of these games through, and in-turn I hope I haven’t just produced my Michael Fish moment there!

In the Premier Division there is a full roster of fixtures and some fascinating clashes. Leaders, Macclesfield host Charnock Richard in what resembles a tough looking game. Charnock Richard have been somewhat off the boil of late but have always carried that ability to beat anyone on their day. Macclesfield took a defeat on the chin on Wednesday evening when they were beaten 2-0 at Avro, a result which for some was not too surprising, given Avro’s strong form this season. The Silkmen will be keen to bounce back from that this weekend.

Congleton host AFC Liverpool to the Cheshire Silk 106.9 Stadium with both clubs having had a recent upturn in form in their last couple of games, indeed Congleton have found themselves back in second spot behind their neighbours. A certain set of results could see the lead at the top of the table change this weekend. AFC Liverpool have won their two games over the last week and are now in the lower reaches of mid-table but the form they are in, they may fancy their chances of securing a place in the chasing pack.

There’s another high flyer derby at the Mike Riding Ground this weekend as Longridge Town host Wythenshawe Town. Longridge are currently third in the table and as an example of how close the top half of the Premier Division is, Wythenshwe Town were in that spot only ten days ago but find themselves currently in eleventh. A win for Longridge could see them put real pressure on the leaders whilst a Wythenshawe Victory could see them leap-frog their hosts – crazy!

Skelmersdale are another in that chasing pack and they welcome Ashton Athletic to the One Call stadium at JMO Sports Park this weekend. Ashton are currently fourth bottom of the table and not in great form, they were beaten in midweek by Litherland Remyca, which gave The Remy their first win of the season. Skem are currently second in the form table, fourth in the league table but suffered a rare defeat in midweek to Irlam.

Prestwich Heys and Squires Gate face each other this weekend and a win for either of those teams would see them rise a good few places up the table, indeed Prestwich Heys, who only a week or so back were looking over their shoulder, could well move into the chasing pack with a win. Padiham could potentially make their way out of the drop zone if they can take three points from Vauxhall Motors at The Ruby Civil Arena this weekend which in turn could drop Runcorn Town into real trouble if they are unable to get anything from their home game against Northwich Victoria. Its unusual to see Runcorn Town struggling at this stage of the season, however for the same reasons we could see a lot of movement in a bunched up table, that could be the cause for hope for the Halton based side.

Burscough got a decent looking win at Lower Breck on Thursday evening which lifted them to 14th in the table, they host Irlam this weekend and are on the back of six straight wins in all competitions. Irlam’s form isn’t too bad either, only one defeat in their last six league games and two defeats in their last seven, that other defeat was at the hands of Burscough in The Buildbase FA Vase only a week ago.

Winsford United (16th) welcome Barnoldswick (15th) this weekend with the home side without a win in their last four whilst Barlick with three defeats in their last four, however that other game in that stat was a 3-0 away win in the league at Irlam!

Lots of great looking games this weekend, if you are out and about, please stay safe and follow the clubs relevant safety guidance. You may need a brolley too!
