It certainly was an entertaining afternoon in the NWCFL on Saturday - with nearly a hundred goals, two late abandonments making it one of the most hectic finishes.

There were three Macron Cup games, with the last of the 1st Round games to be played with Ellesmere Rangers running out narrow 3-2 winners against Cleator Moor Celtic. In the two 2nd Round ties, AFC Liverpool racked up a 2-0 win over Abbey Hulton United, whilst Josi Bradshaw scored late on for Shelley in their slender 3-2 away win at Whitchurch Alport.

In the NWCFL Premier Division, all eyes were on Bootle, along with 351 spectators as it was the league leaders 1874 Northwich who travelled to Merseyside to do battle. And it was Wayne Goodison and Paul Bowyer's side who came away with three points winning 4-1 on a rainy afternoon at L30.

Rylands won their first league game in nearly two months, dispatching Ashton Athletic 3-1 away from home, whilst an injury-time Matthew Clarke goal sealed an important victory for Northwich Victoria over Avro 2-1.

Over at Barnoldswick TownIrlam made it back to back league wins against Endrit Shehu's side as they won 3-0, whilst bottom side Litherland REMYCA narrowed the gap to safety to just a single points - beating Burscough 2-0.

Congleton Town and Runcorn Town also recorded victories, with wins over Charnock Richard (3-1) and Padiham (0-2) respectively whilst a late Tom Croughan goal secured a point for Skelmersdale United - drawing 2-2 with Hanley Town.

Over at Squires Gate, their game with Winsford United had to be abandoned with 15 minutes to play due to floodlight failure - Luke Evans side was leading 4-1 at the time.

In the First Division North, league leaders Emley AFC had a comfortable afternoon, winning 5-0 away at bottom side Steeton. Meanwhile, there were wins for Lower Breck who won 3-0 at Chadderton - their last two goals coming in second-half injury time, and Holker Old Boys recent form continued with a narrow 1-0 win against Prestwich Heys.

A topsy turvy game occurred between AFC Blackpool and Atherton LR but it was Mark Robinson's side who ran out 3-2 winners, whilst a late Nelson winner secured a 3-2 away win at Daisy Hill and an early second-half finish from Conor Barton secured a slender 3-2 win for St Helens Town against AFC Darwen.

The game of the day in the league was certainly Garstang and Bacup Borough's epic 4-all draw - with both sides leading at least twice during a classic NWCFL tie at Lancaster Road.

Nine games went ahead in the NWCFL First Division South but only eight finished as Wythenshawe Town and West Didsbury & Chorlton's game ended early due to a player injury - we send our best wishes to the player involved.

A superb result for Cheadle Town saw Daniel Meadowcroft and Liam Brownhill's side defeat the league leaders FC Oswestry Town 3-1, whilst the three closest chasers all recorded wins. A 93rd minute Michael Burkey goal secured a 2-1 late win for Vauxhall Motors away at Wythenshawe Amateurs, whilst Stone Old Alleynians cruised to a 3-0 win versus Sandbach United, and Abbey Hey came from behind against Maine Road - winning 2-1.

New Mills moved up to third-bottom following their 2-0 away win at Alsager Town, whilst Cammell Laird 1907 came from 2-nil down to win 3-2 at Barnton - Callum Hulmston bagging a superb brace.

Cheadle Heath Nomads made it two league wins in five days - defeating Eccleshall 1-0 at the ProSeal Stadium.

Finally, Stockport Town's moving in the right direction, up the table following their recent appointment of Adam Jones - Aaron Dwyer bagging a brace on route to a 2-0 victory against St Martins.

The action returns on Monday evening when Daisy Hill host Lower Breck in the First Division North - 7:45 pm kick-off.
