At all our games over the weekend, there was a minutes silence in remembrance to those that have given their lives defending our country - which was impeccably observed up and down the region.

It was all set up to be another fantastic weekend of action, but the rain postponed several fixtures which meant only 19 games went ahead which started on Friday evening. One was called off, whilst a local derby in the Macron Cup 2nd Round saw Ashton Athletic beat neighbours Ashton Town 4-2 - Josh Nicolson grabbing a brace on route to victory in front of 152 spectators.

Just 18 hours later, Wythenshawe Amateurs and Chadderton played in the First Round of the Macron Cup and it was the home side who came out victorious, winning 2-1 in front of 121 fans.

In the Second Round of the Macron Cup, the biggest winners of the after were West Didsbury & Chorlton who defeated Alsager Town 6-1 - Matthew Eckersley and Lee Grimshaw both grabbing braces on a fine afternoon in Manchester for Brad Cooke's side.

A 13th-minute Ryan Charnley finish secured a narrow win for AFC Blackpool on the road at St Helens Town, whilst an epic game at Rylands saw a Freddie Potter treble the highlight of their 4-3 win over fellow NWCFL top-flight side Padiham. At Lower BreckMaine Road returned home the victors after a 4-2 win.

Runcorn Town advanced into the next round of the competition with a goal in each half, securing a 2-0 win away at Northwich Victoria, whilst Vauxhall Motors won 3-0 at Longridge Town and Litherland REMYCA knocked Bootle out of the cup.

A late fightback from Steeton looked on the cards with two goals in four minutes but it was too little too late as they lost 4-2 against a strong Garstang side. Brent Peter's went viral this week with his efforts on their pitch at Bacup but his side could not match Abbey Hey as they lost 2-1 at M18.

Just two games took place in the NWCFL Premier Division with both games having five goals apiece. Burscough came out 3-2 winners against a resilient Barnoldswick Town side - Nathan Marland scoring a hat-trick, whilst two late goals turned the tie on its head in front of 158 as Squires Gate won 3-2 at Congleton Town.

A 75th-minute issue with the floodlights at Nelson meant their game against Holker Old Boys had to be abandoned at with the home side winning 2-1 in the First Division North. Whilst Sam Agar scored four goals on his debut for Emley AFC against Daisy Hill in a thriller in front of 151 paying fans to send Richard Tracey's side to the top of the table.

Meanwhile, in the First Division South, a late 2-1 win for Stone Old Alleynians over Barnton moved them up to third in the table, whilst hot on their heels are Eccleshall following their 3-2 win against St Martins.

Stockport Town's new manager Adam Jones opened his managerial account with a slender 3-2 win away at Cammell Laird 1907 - a win which moves them to 14th in the standings.

Lastly, New Mills recorded just their second victory in their opening 14 games of the season, moving onto 10 points, seven clear of bottom side Ellesmere Rangers and on the same points as St Martins after a 2-0 win against promotion-chasing Sandbach United.

The action returns to the NWCFL on Monday evening, with three league games - an exciting prospect.
