The Macron Cup First Round took place this weekend with 28 ties scheduled to take place - but with two postponements 52 teams competed up and down the region in an entertaining afternoon.

On Friday evening, three fixtures took place and saw an 87th minute Jamie Clark secured a late 3-2 victory for Bootle over Eccleshall, whilst Rylands secured a place in round 2 with a 5-0 win over Barnton. Meanwhile, Irlam returned home from Skelmersdale United after a 3-1 away win.

Saturday saw Wythenshawe Amateurs versus Chadderton and Ellesmere Rangers versus Cleator Moore Celtic postponed, both due to a waterlogged pitch.

The biggest winners of the afternoon were Padiham, who swept aside St Martins 9-0 - Luke Noble grabbing four on a superb afternoon for their fans.

Macron Cup holders 1874 Northwich secured a 5-1 away win at Cheadle Heath Nomads whilst a later Callum McGlynn finish saw Abbey Hey beat Holker Old Boys 2-1.

First Division North side Ashton Town's Alexander McMilan netted a trio of goals on their way to a 5-1 win against Golcar United, whilst Vauxhall Motors scored six without reply at Avro.

Bacup Borough looked to have squandered the victory as they conceded a 95th-minute equaliser against Charnock Richard. But, Brent Peters side won 3-1 on penalties to progress to the next round.

NWCFL top-flight side Burscough exited the Macron Cup on Saturday following a 5-0 loss to Ashton Athletic, meanwhile, AFC Darwen held off a stern Congleton Town comeback to hold on for a 3-2 win.

Daisy Hill and AFC Blackpool shared nine goals, but it was the visiting fans happiest as they saw Martin Barid's side win 6-3.

A quality free-kick from Emley AFC's Rob Bordman secured a 2-1 win against Squires Gate, whilst Garstang won 4-2 on penalties following their 1-1 draw with Stockport Town.

First Division South side Abbey Hulton United beat NWCFL top-flight outfit Hanley Town 2-1 at Abbey Lane, whilst Lower Breck came from behind to beat Cammell Laird 1907 by the same scoreline.

A trio of second-half goals from Maine Road saw a 3-0 win against FC Oswestry Town, meanwhile, managerless Barnoldswick Town lost 3-1 to Northwich Victoria - Saul Henderson netting a brace being the highlight.

First Division North Steeton advanced in the competition thanks to a 3-1 away win at Pilkington, meanwhile just a single goal for Prestwich Heys was enough to seal a slender 1-0 win against Winsford United.

Mark Robinson's first game in charge for Atherton LR was not one to remember as they were dispatched out of the cup by Runcorn Town 5-0.

Whilst, AFC Liverpool won on the road at Sandbach United by 4 goals to 2, Shelley came out on the right side of a 3-2 win against Wythenshawe Town and West Didsbury & Chorlton left their fans delighted following their 3-1 win against New Mills.

Finally, First Division North team St Helens Town relied somewhat on a piece of good fortune as a 96th own goal saw them defeat fellow league side Nelson 2-1, and Lennon Whewell netted two as Litherland REMYCA won 2-1 away at Stone Old Alleynians.

The action returns to the NWCFL on Tuesday with nine fixtures over six different competitions - how exciting!
