34-year old Shane Goldrick is heading into his 4th year at North West Counties First Division South side Wythenshawe Amateurs and after an impressive 2018/19 where they finished fourth at the first time of asking at Step 6 - Goldrick is hoping to go that one step further.

"At the start of the year, we would of probably would have taken 4th spot for our first year in the counties, however, I do believe we could have done better than that position as we were in second place for a long period of time.

"We dropped off towards the end of the season partly down to injuries and squad selection.  The lads, the chairman Basil Kabbani, the ultras (old boys J) and all involved with the club have worked extremely hard though and our set up at the club is excellent considering it was our first year at the home of Holyhedge Park too and lots of clubs and supporters have commented on our set up at the club."

Going into the new season, Goldrick knows just what they must do, "The lads are pretty fit and do look after themselves but we always continue to work on this as I do believe our fitness levels did win us games last year.  However, we just need to be a bit better in terms of game management.  Last year there were times we were leading games and still chasing for goals and this meant that we dropped points.  We have reflected upon the season in our pre-season schedule and lads know we must improve our decision making at times.

"We have unfortunately lost a few players and I welcome Martin Ivison who joins my backroom staff with a couple of other changes.  We have recruited some new young hungry players and we have kept a lot of the core group of players which is excellent so we are just working on our shape and how we set up in games.  The lads have been working really hard and are looking forward to getting started.  We have a few more competitive pre-season games and they are eager to get started away against a tough Stockport Town side on the opening day of the season.

"We hope to challenge for the league this year. It would also be nice to go on a couple of cup runs as the ultras (our loyal fan group) follow us everywhere. We want to become a dominate force in the NWC Premier division.

"We also look forward to a lot of local derbies this year.  We had over 600 people at our derby with Wythenshawe Town at home and hope to do the same against the likes of West Didsbury, both Cheadle outfits (Health Nomads and Town), Maine Road, Abbey Hey etc. So if people haven't done so already then get down and see our set up at Holyhedge Park and support the Ammies as we are always commented on our positive attacking football."
