A Colourful Turn Out From The Hillmen

Glossop North End supporters added a colourful touch to their away game at Ashton Athletic on Saturday, travelling in fancy dress for the day. Â
Organised by the GNE Supporters Club, there were a few surprised faces when the minibus arrived carrying, among others, clowns, pirates and that well know duo - Batman and Noddy. Robin was clearly busy on this particular afternoon. Â
The North End Supporters Club have organised many well supported away games this season, with the emphasis on fun whatever the result, and club's event organiser Neil Rimmer was delighted with the success of the day, saying "we've had some memorable afternoons this season, but this could top the lot." Â
One man who received a little more ribbing than most was The Hillmen's football secretary Jonathan Haggart, who had to arrive in his costume much earlier than the rest of the party. This led to some ribbing from the Ashton Athletic squad, who wondered why the North End team sheet was being written out by a man in a dinner suit.Â
"It was supposed to be James Bond", he said, " but the Ashton lads were calling me to the pool table, asking me to officiate on their matches!" Â
The Glossop North End supporters club is taking membership applications for the 2010/11 season already. Membership gives access to a regular newsletter and social occassions and allows priority booking on club transport to away games. Cost is £10 for adults per season.  Anyone wishing to join, contact Steve Dyson on gnesupporters@googlemail.com.
