Town Ground Share Plans Underway

St Helens Town have begun talks aimed at arranging new venues for their home games from the middle of next season.
Saints' current home at Knowsley Road, which they share with St Helens RLFC, is set to close in October, as the RL club are moving to a new stadium in 2011.Â
Chairman John McKiernan explained: "Our current understanding is that we will start the 2010-11 season at Knowsley Road and that we are likely to relocate from the beginning of October. We initially had discussions regarding a possible groundshare with Prescot Cables, but that has fallen through as it became evident that the fixtures of three teams from different leagues would be impossible to manage.Â
"We are now in discussions with Ashton Town which will hopefully see us play "home" fixtures at Edge Green Street for part of next season.
"The Ashton Town deal has not yet been completed, although both parties are happy to proceed. We are currently working on a plan with League Ground Grading Chairman Geoff Wilkinson to ensure we can go ahead with a ground-sharing agreement, once we've sorted out the details of the work needed to bring Edge Green Street to Premier Division standards.
"In addition, following recent discussions with the Chief Executive of St Helens RLFC it has also been confirmed that we will commence the 2011-12 season at the new St Helens Stadium, which is scheduled to be completed in the early months of 2011".
