A hat trick from Norton and Stockton Ancients striker Sonny Andrews delivered a knockout blow to Padiham's hopes of progress in the FA Vase.

Andrews, whose brother Rocky starred in the BBC show "The Apprentice" last year, grew up in a boxing mad family, and Mr Andrews senior named his sons after his favourite fighters Sonny Liston and Rocky Marciano.

Sonny certainly lived up to his name by showing a boxer's killer instinct when he struck twice in stoppage time to clinch victory for his side.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Padiham, who began well and were two goals up inside the opening half hour.

The opening goal arrived in the fifth minute, when an inswinging corner from Stuart Telfer was dropped by Norton keeper James Briggs, and Martin Parkes pounced to side foot home from close range.

Shortly afterwards Ryan Dunnan just failed to connect with a Nehru McKenzie cross to the far post, and then on 14 minutes Robbie Smith curled a free kick against the post, and Norton keeper Briggs made a fin eblock from McKenzie to divert the ball for a corner.

Padiham continued to dominate and a misplaced backpass sent Chris Ridehalgh through on goal but he lost his footing on the slippery surface and scuffed his shot wide.

But on the half hour, Padiham went two goals up when Lee Morris made a run from deep to collect a great through ball from Robbie Smith, and he advanced in on goal before finishing with a shot under the keeper.

Seven minutes before the break, Norton were handed a lifeline when full back Stephen Larkin was tripped in the box, and Sonny Andrews smashed home the resultant spot kick off the underside of the crossbar.

Five minutes into the second half Padiham spurned a great chance to restore their two goal advantage when Nehru McKenzie lost his marker to get on the end of Stuart Telfer's cross, but Norton keeper Briggs did well to save at point blank range.

It proved to be an important save as Norton drew level in the 56th minute, when striker Richard Storr got on the end of a high cross into the penalty area to glance a header into the far corner of the net.

The rain that had been falling steadily throughout the afternoon then became torrential, and both sides struggled to create chances in the increasingly difficult conditions, but as the game wore on it was the Northern League side that began to take control.

Nine minutes from time Andrews collected a through ball and raced through on goal, but after he rounded Padiham keeper Sean Davis, his attempt to roll the ball into the unguarded net was blocked by a terrific blocking tackle from Padiham's Jack Overson.

But Andrews was not to be denied and as the game moved into the first minute of stoppage time, he unleashed an absolute screamer of a shot from 30 yards out that flew into the net off the underside of the crossbar, to put his side ahead for the first time.

It was a goal fit to win any game, but Andrews wasn't finished, and when Norton regained possession again straight from the restart, the Norton star man was on the end of a left wing cross to fire home at the second attempt to complete his hat trick.
