Town Link Up With Papyrus
Runcorn Town have announced a Community Partnership Initiative with PAPYRUS, the nationwide charity aimed at the prevention of young suicide.
The name PAPYRUS came from the original name of the charity, Parents Association for the Prevention of Young Suicide. From those early days, people have joined the charity which is now the UK-wide membership organisation dedicated to the prevention of young suicide.
The club are delighted to support PAPYRUS in raising awareness to their charity and providing support to the work they do in helping others.
Louise Walmsley PAPYRUS Community Fundraiser commented, “PAPYRUS works hard to increase awareness of the risk of suicide in young people and where to get help. Our national confidential helpline HOPELineUK (0800 068 41 41) is open every day of the year.
“We offer practical advice, support and information to anyone who is feeling suicidal or who is worried about a young person they know. We aim to reduce stigma and raise awareness of suicide, listen and learn from young people and campaign to reduce access to harmful online material.
“We are pleased to be working with Runcorn Town FC, as this in itself will be a signal to everyone that young suicide is a massive issue that can be significantly reduced when we are less scared to talk about it, and seek help without fear.
“PAPYRUS believes that having the support of Runcorn Town will save a significant number of lives. Fans will know what to do and where to seek help, reducing their own suicide risk, and that of young family members and friends”.
Glyn Davies from Runcorn Town FC commented: “At the football club it’s always been our intention to get out into the community and support people and organisations wherever, and whenever we can.
“PAPYRUS is a wonderful organisation, providing great support and awareness to people with problems which affects lots of people in all walks of life”.
