A Busy End To The Season For Holker

Holker Old Boys manager Scott Redhead is challenging his squad to pick up the pace in the league again, after dropping four points out of six last week.
A home defeat against Litherland REMYCA and a draw at Chadderton on Saturday temporarily ended the Stags impressive run of nine straight league wins, dating back to before Scott took over in November, and he is now focussing attention on the games coming up during March.
“I told the players at the start of last week it was a big week, because if we had won Tuesday and Saturday (against REMYCA and Chadderton) we'd have been top of the league, guaranteed”, he said.
“It's not worked out very well, but we now have a massive month of games. We've got Barnton, Hanley Town, Ashton Town, all teams around us, so definitely after the end of March we will know where we are”.
Despite the dip in results, Holker still have plenty of games in hand, due to their run of postponements recently, and Scott says having so many games called off since he took over in early November has caused problems at times.
“At the start it was good, we had the chance to put some ideas into practice, but when you get on a run of winning games you just want to keep going and keep winning the games.
“We’ve still got games in hand, the only danger is that if the other teams around you are winning and start pulling away, and we need to keep in the pack now”.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Scott believes his squad are capable of keeping the momentum going and keeping up a promotion challenge.
“When I took over, I said that in the summer, we will have a closer look at what we've got and maybe have a shuffle around, but for now I've said I would give the lads at the club a chance.
“I still think we have got enough quality in there to at least make the play offs, although we do want to be up there in the top two, I've said that from the start.
“When I have a full squad I've got some good lads missing out on playing, although we had four regular starters missing on Saturday due to the shift patterns we have in Barrow not working for us.
“I don't think I need to bring extra players in and I am happy to work with what I have got, but we don’t seem to have just one missing at a time, it's three or four, and it’s a problem.
“But we don't have any time to dwell on things. We are looking at Saturday-Tuesday pretty much from now on, so there's plenty of games coming round and plenty of points to be won, and we just need to go on a bit of a run now”.
