Atherton Collieries’ 7-3 win at AFC Darwen on Wednesday has prompted a look through the NWCFL record books, to check for previous instances of such a high scoring game.

It turns out that it was the first time that Colls have recorded that score in the NWCFL, and it's the tenth time in the NWCFL’s 34 year history that a team has won 7-3 in an away game.

The previous games in which the away side won 7-3 are:

27 Aug 1983 - Rossendale United v Droylsden - Division 2

26 Apr 1984 – Lytham v Rossendale United - Division 2

28 Sept 1985 - Lancaster City v Skelmersdale United - Division 2

9 Jan 1993 - K Chell v Oldham Town – Division 2

24 Jan 1998 - Atherton LR v Maine Road - Division 1

21 Apr 1998 - Chadderton v Glossop North End - Division 1

30 Apr 2002 - Leek CSOB v Castleton Gabriels - Division 2

15 May 2006 - Castleton Gabriels v Nelson - Division 2

18 Aug 2012 - Leek CSOB v Formby - Division 1

As can be seen from the list above, the last team to win 7-3 away from home were Formby in their title winning season of 2012-13 with a victory at Harrison Park in Leek.

By coincidence, the last time a score of 7-3 was recorded in a game in the NWCFL was on 26th February 2014, when Formby again beat Leek CSOB by that score, on that occasion in a home game at Victoria Park in Burscough.
