1874 Strike Late

Runcorn Linnets are carving out a reputation for scoring late winners, and the habit now seems to be spreading to their fellow Premier Division promotion chasers 1874 Northwich.

The Greens had previously scored late equalisers at home to Bootle and away at Congleton Town to secure a point, but on Tuesday night a last minute penalty from Matthew Beadle ensured that all three points were earned against Abbey Hey.

After the game, assistant manager Paul Bowyer was quoted in the Northwich Guardian as saying that it is a quality he would like to see the team display more regularly - so now they have discovered the knack, future opponents should beware.

Eccleshall Bounce Back

After two successive defeats on the back of four wins, Eccleshall manager Steve Lloyd would have been looking for a response from his side when they travelled to Whitchurch on Saturday, especially on the back of a 6-0 loss at Stockport Town in midweek.

After a 5-0 victory moved them into fourth place in the current form table in Division One, the manager will now be looking for more of the same with tough few weeks coming up, including games against promotion chasing Barnton and Ashton Town, and a cup tie at Colne at the end of the month.

More Impressive Form On The Road From West

One of the eye catching scores of the week was West Didsbury & Chorlton’s 6-2 win at AFC Liverpool on Saturday – the latest in a number of impressive performances on the road this season.

West have already won 4-0 at Squires Gate and 5-1 at Abbey Hey, and Saturday’s win was their third in succession on the road.

West have two home games in the next two weeks, but trips to Congleton, Padiham and Barnoldswick follow afterwards – the respective hosts will no doubt be welcoming but wary.

Remy Keep The Good Run Going

Litherland REMYCA’s 4-1 win over Northwich Manchester Villa moved them to within two points of the promotion play off places, and extended their run of good results at home, where they haven’t lost since early October.

With just one defeat in the last six games, plenty of league games to play, and a Reusch Cup quarter final tie coming up in a couple of weeks, Remy could be running into form just at the right time.

A Win On The Road At Last For Chadderton

After reaching the Division One play-offs last season, the new campaign has turned out to be tougher than expected for Chadderton.

Up until Saturday, picking up points away from home had proved to be difficult for Steve Patterson’s men, but after breaking their duck and earning their first away league win of the season at Widnes on Saturday, they will be hoping that more will follow in the remaining games of the season.
