A new month but a familiar story as the weekend schedule was cut down to just six games thanks to the weather, with one of those matches failing to reach its conclusion.

In the Premier Division, Atherton Collieries game at home to Nelson on Friday night was abandoned at half-time with the scores level at 2-2.

Josh Messer and Kris Holt twice gave Colls the lead, but Waqas Azam from the spot and Martin Broderick pegged them back on both occasions. The game was brought to a halt during the interval, leaving Colls 3rd and Nelson 13th.

The only other ground to see Premier Division action at the weekend was the Marine Travel Arena, but AFC Liverpool must be wishing that wasn’t the case after West Didsbury & Chorlton travelled home with a 6-2 victory.

Joe Shaw and Ben Richardson put West in control, but Francis Barry before and Alan Weston after half-time made it 2-2. If the game looked to be swinging the way of the hosts, Nic Evangelinos had other ideas: he scored three times, with Ben Steer getting the other goal to hand Steve Settle’s West a big three points that moves them up to 7th. AFC Liverpool remain 10th.

Division One’s Merseyside club will have enjoyed their Saturday more than AFC, as Litherland REMYCA defeated Northwich Manchester Villa by four goals to one. Gavin Salmon opened the scoring for the visitors, but three goals in nine first half minutes from Jamie Colburn, Colin Quirk and Jordan Stafford turned the game on its head.

David Flynn’s effort sealed a good win for REMY, as Phil Stafford’s men moved up to 8th – just two points off the play-offs – whilst Villa stay 11th.

Perhaps the most significant victory of the weekend saw Holker Old Boys win 2-1 at 3rd placed Stockport Town. The game started off at a frantic pace, Philip Coombe firing the visitors in front, before the home side responded through Andrew Graham’s long ranger within the first ten minutes.

It took until midway through the second half for Bradley Hubbold to restore Holker’s lead, and it was enough to move them up to 5th.

Chadderton picked up a much needed victory on the road at Widnes. Dillan O’Connor’s strike and Jason Done’s penalty in the opening 45 minutes moved Chaddy up to 12th, but Steve Hill’s Widnes drop a place to 15th.

The final game saw Whitchurch Alport welcome Eccleshall, and it was the visitors who picked up a morale-boosting 5-0 win; Daniel Counter put the visitors in front on 17 minutes, before a pair of second half braces from Steven Hughes and Dean Twigg gave the scoreline a comfortable feel.

Steve Lloyd’s Eccleshall moved up to 16th, but Alport remain rooted to the foot of the table as their poor form continues.

Not as much action as we would have liked at the weekend, but there was more than enough entertainment for spectators after a football fix. Let’s hope that next week sees more action – surely this miserable weather can’t continue for much longer?
