Squires Gate have learned today that winger Josh Kay has joined League One club Barnsley.

Kay becomes the second Gate player in recent seasons to make the step up to the professional game, after Jack Sowerby also made a similar move up to Fleetwood Town.

Josh played his last game for Gate in December's 5-0 loss away at Maine Road, before stepping up to play for AFC Fylde in the Vanarama North, having spent the last two seasons at Gate and attracting scouts from higher placed clubs.

Squires Gate Media Officer Mark Ashmore said: "Everyone at Squires Gate wishes Josh the best of success in League football and we look forward to following his progress for many years to come".
