Nelson FC Chairman Fayyaz Ahmed has been awarded an MBE in the 2016 New Year’s Honours list.

Fayyaz has received the award for services to interfaith and community cohesion in Fishwick, Preston.

Fayyaz, 42, who grew up in Fishwick and now lives in Ribbleton, has been involved for many years at Fishwick Rangers, a community organisation which has now expanded into a Youth Development Scheme. The organisation provides interests and activities for young people so they are diverted away from crime and drugs.

Married with five sons, Fayyaz said: “It is a huge shock but a great honour to be awarded this. I was secretly nominated by one of my colleagues at Fishwick Rangers”.
