Alsager Town are in the Third Round of the FA Vase for the first time in their history after a comfortable 3-1 win over AFC Mansfield at Wood Park.

After 120 minutes failed to separate the two sides on Saturday, the tie was over after 45 minutes of the replay, with Alsager having raced into a 3-0 lead.

Michael Machin opened the scoring for the Bullets on the half hour, with a shot on the turn from inside the box, and seven minutes later Jonathan Beaumont added a second with a close range finish after a corner kick was swung into the box.

A great half for Alsager was rounded off on the stroke of half time, when former Bacup Borough captain Daniel Cocks set up Jonathan Jones for a third goal.

Alsager continued to dominate in the second half as conditions worsened in the rain, and although Grant Allott pulled a goal back for the visitors a minute before the end, the Bullets can now look forward to hosting Midland League Premier Division side AFC Wulfrunians, from the Castlecroft area of Wolverhampton, at Wood Park in the Third Round.

Bullets manager Scott Dundas praised his side's performance afterwards.

"The lads played really well, and totally dominated the game", he said.

"It's always difficult when you are three up at half time to keep the momentum going after the break, but they did a really professional job, and could have scored another three or four.

"That's now three cup tie wins in the four games since I took over, the challenge now is take that form into league games and get us out of the position we are in".
