Town Success In The Vase Continues

There are few teams in our league who have enjoyed better runs in the FA Vase in recent years than Runcorn Town.

Journeys to the Fourth Round twice and the Fifth Round in the first three years they competed in the competition between 2010 and 2013 set the standard, and after falling in the Second Round last season, they clinched a place in the Third Round with a 3-0 win over Garforth Town on Saturday.

With their experience of what is needed to succeed in the competition, it will be interesting to see how long this season's campaign will last for manager Simon Burton and his side.

Don't Leave Early if Irlam Are Playing

Anyone who left Yockings Park a few minutes before the end of the game between Whitchurch Alport and Irlam must have had a bit of a surprise when they checked the results last night.

With three minutes to go, the game appeared to fizzling out in a goalless draw, but Irlam had other ideas, and with Christian Lawlor scoring twice and Matty Boland once the visitors left Shropshire on their first ever league visit with a 3-0 win.

Steve Nixon's side are clearly a team that can't be underestimated in the latter stages of any game.

Hanley Town Back In The Promotion Places

After being defeated in last season's play-off final, Hanley Town appeared to be suffering from a close season reaction in the early weeks of this season.

However, it is beginning to look like business as usual for Dean Owen's side, with Saturday's 1-0 win against Bacup Borough moving them into an automatic promotion place once more, and Theo Stair grabbing the only goal.

The combination of their star striker among the goals and the team putting a winning run together suggests that it is business as usual once more for Dean Owen's side.

Winning Start Continues For Scott

When a team loses a manager mid-season when they are going well, it can often have a disruptive influence.

But Holker Old Boys new manager Scott Redhead has made a seamless transition into the manager's role at Rakesmoor Lane without a problem, and he picked up his second win in succession since taking over, with his side moving into the next round of the Reusch Division One Cup with a 2-0 win over Ashton Town.

Holker began the season with aims of improving on last season's play-off semi-final defeat under Gary Fawcett, and so far the signs look good for the new regime.

Daisy's Spectacular End To A Winless Run

It's been a difficult season so far for Daisy Hill, with just four wins all season, and going into Saturday's game at St Helens Town the team had gone five games without a win.

However, they ended that run in spectacular fashion with a 6-2 win at Brocstedes Park, the first time in many years that they have scored six goals in a league game.

The challenge now for Craig Thomas and his side is to keep the momentum going and pick up more wins to move them further up the table.
