Former Padiham goalkeeper Chris Ormerod will be taking part in a specially organised charity event when the Storks host AFC Liverpool on Saturday 5th December.

Chris carried on a family tradition when he signed and played for the Storks in the 1970s and 1980s, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who had also played for Padiham many years ago.

Chris has never forgotten the good times he had at the club and the many friends he made during his playing time at Padiham, and recently decided he wanted to give something back to the club that has so many links to his family by raising some money for Padiham FC.

However, 55 year old Chris has Churggstrauss Syndrome which is an autoimmune disease that affects the body's defence mechanism. He was diagnosed with the condition in 2006 and has progressively worsened resulting in the loss of both his legs and soon possibly his right arm.

However, as Padiham Secretary Alan Smith explained, Chris will be making one more appearance in goals at the ground he loved as a player.

"Chris is determined to overcome his health problems and help his former club out one more time", said Alan.

"He has volunteered to take part in an half-time sponsored penalty shoot out against his former team mates and host an evening of entertainment at Padiham FCs Club House, after the home fixture against AFC Liverpool.

"Padiham Football Club have designated the fixture as the Chris Ormerod Game and are encouraging anyone who has met Chris to come and support him and enjoy a few drinks with him after the game.

"The penalty shoot out will see Chris wear some extra large gloves, his team mates will use an extra soft ball and the goals will be slightly smaller than usual.

"What Chris now wants, however, is as many people as possible to turn up to watch the game and sponsor his last goal keeping appearance, make a donation to Padiham Football Club and come to the night function where he would like to meet up with family, former team mates and friends and have a cracking night out.

"With the monies raised, he also hopes to make a donation to Pendle Side Hospice and the Doctor Niven Research Fund, to thank them for all the help the two organisations have given him".
