Congleton Town have announced that the joint management team of Steve Hardy and Mike McDonald have stood down with immediate effect.

The pair will be replaced by another managerial duo, Andy Alston and Griff Jones.

A club statement read: "The club are appreciative of the work Steve and Mike have contributed since they took over their duties last year.

"In particular, they have developed a strong team ethos combining the abilities of players they inherited with a number of new players brought in from other clubs in the close season. The squad is talented and now needs to deliver the results that it is capable of in the North West Counties League and the Cheshire Senior Cup.

"Andy Alston and Griff Jones have been appointed as joint managers and take up their duties with immediate effect.

"Andy is the senior player at the club, having played around 300 games and Griff, a qualified physiotherapist has a playing career that includes spells at Barnsley, Bradford Park Avenue and Radcliffe Borough and more recently a number of games for Congleton Town, before a knee operation curtailed his playing career.

"The club would like to offer its very best wishes to Griff and Andy as they take up their management roles".
