Ashton Town have announced plans to hold a charity match, starring some big name players from the past, to raise funds for local charity Joseph’s Goal.

On Friday 13th May 2016, a Latics Legends team including some well known former Wigan Athletic players will take on a team of Dutch Masters, who will be flown in especially for the game at the MSO Ashton Town Stadium.

The team from the Netherlands will be captained by former Wigan Athletic centre-half and fan favourite Arjan De Zeeuw, and will also include ex-Latics midfielder Denny Landzaat and one time Rangers striker Michael Mols.

Joseph's Goal is a charity set up to increase awareness of NKH (Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia), a very rare life-limiting genetic disorder that severely affects his development.

The charity was set up by the parents of Joseph Kendrick, a five year old who has NKH, to support Dr Johan Van Hove at the University of Colorado, who is the world leader in researching this condition, and to raise funds for research to find better treatments and eventually a cure.

Because it is so rare and so little research has been done, literally every penny raised can and will make a difference.

The event will be the second to take place at Ashton Town, following on from an event earlier this year, when a team of Latics legends including Roberto Martinez, Graeme Jones, Emmerson Boyce and Mario Melchiot played against a side from TV soap Hollyoaks. The game brought in a record attendance of 2,000 at Edge Green Street,

Town Chairman Mark Hayes said: "The Joseph's Goal game back in May was a simply stunning event in many ways.

“To get so many big names at my football club and to assist the charity by raising so much money was an honour to be part of.

"To top that event would take some doing, however, it's crazy to think that we probably will do bigger and better thanks to the Dutch players who will be flying in.

He added: "The Wigan squad will also be juggled to welcome some more very familiar faces. This is going to be a simply amazing and jaw dropping event."
