After consecutive weekends of MEN United and FA Vase action, the First Division returns to a full complement of league fixtures this weekend.
Third placed Ashton Town welcome Rochdale Town to the MSO Stadium and will be hoping to return to winning ways after exiting both the FA Vase last Saturday at Armthorpe Welfare (3-2) and the Liverpool Senior Cup on Monday evening at Widnes (3-0).
Rochdale Town look to make it three wins in just over a week after firing six past St Helens Town in the Vase last weekend while midweek they recorded a fine 0-3 league win at Cheadle Town.
After their midweek defeat Cheadle Town will travel to Atherton LR looking for a first win in five games which has seen them suffer defeat in the FA Vase at Handsworth (3-2) and the Men United Cup at home to near neighbours Stockport Town (1-2).
LR are also looking for a return to some form as they too suffered Vase and Men United Cup exits at home to Daisy Hill (1-2) and away to Atherton Collieries (2-6) respectively.
Despite last weekend’s FA Vase exit at home to Hemsworth MW (0-1), Bacup Borough are in excellent form winning their previous five outings as they play host to Litherland REMYCA. A win for Bacup could see them leapfrog their visitors who will need to recover from a 0-2 home defeat to Hanley Town last Saturday and a midweek 1-1 draw at Whitchurch.
Whitchurch Alport travel to Daisy Hill with the visitors still looking for their first win in the NWCFL. Alport’s 1-1 draw in midweek at home to Litherland REMYCA was their eighth draw from twelve league outings.
The New Sirs outfit will be hoping to recover some of the form which saw them record their second win of the season when they won 1-2 at LR in the Men United Cup two weeks ago. Last Saturday they lost 6-0 at Premier Division outfit Silsden in the FA Vase. The two teams met at Yockings Park in early September in a 1-1 draw.
Another club looking to recover from a heavy FA Vase defeat are Holker Old Boys who this week host Irlam at Rakesmoor Lane.
With only one win in their last seven outings the old Boys will need to upset the form books as Irlam arrive with four consecutive wins including a 0-1 win away at Maine Road earlier this week in the Manchester Premier Cup adding to league wins over Rochdale (4-0), Daisy Hill (0-4) and Widnes (2-1).
League leaders Barnton travel to the Manchester Regional Stadium to take on Northwich Manchester Villa. The two teams have already met twice this campaign both resulting in home wins for Barnton; a league win (2-1) at the beginning of September followed by a Men United Cup victory (2-0) at the end of the month.
Last time out for Villa saw them lose 2-0 away at Hanley Town on Tuesday evening but they did impress ten days earlier when making FA Vase progress with a 3-1 home win over Rossington Main.
Chadderton travel to St Helens Town looking for a first away win this season and hoping to build on a battling 4-3 win at home to Widnes last weekend.
Town are without a win since their 0-4 FA Vase win away at Winterton at the start of September and will want to put two heavy recent defeats behind them as they bowed out of the Men United Cup at Hanley (4-1) and FA Vase at Rochdale Town (6-2). The two teams met on the opening day of the season with Town hitting two late goals to run out 1-3 winners.
Widnes host second placed Stockport Town at the Select Security Stadium with the teams having shared the points (2-2) in the reverse fixture during the opening week of the season.
A 3-0 home win for Widnes last Monday sent Ashton Town crashing out of the Liverpool Senior Cup while Stockport have recorded five wins from their last six outings, the most recent a 4-1 home win over Whitchurch at Lambeth Grove last Saturday.
