Blues Join Forces With University Academy

Winsford United and Manchester Metropolitan University Football Academy have set up a scheme to target school leavers in a new educational and football venture.

Manchester Metropolitan University football academy is based at the Cheshire Campus in Crewe, to provide Level 3 and Level 2 BTEC courses in Sport Performance and Excellence. 

The Academy was set up in 2004 in partnership with Newcastle Under Lyme College (NULC) to provide school leavers with the opportunity to be part a of  structured educational and football programme .The football academy programme is run by NULC who were rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding for sport, recreation and leisure’ in 2013.

The programme continues to flourish under the educational provision of NULC.

The venture will see opportunities for further youth development for school leavers and potential participating players, to progress through education into the football industry. 

Winsford United will act as recruitment hub for the MMU/NULC Football Academy in the Mid Cheshire area. 

Blues Youth Development Officer and U21’s manager Chris Appleton said: “This venture is a massive step forward for the club in terms of progression and youth development.  I believe this is a result of the progress the club have made over the recent months".
