Division One Preview - Saturday 3rd October 2015
Fri 2nd October 2015 | General | By Gary Langley
With a feast of FA Carling Vase action taking place this weekend, there are not too many Division One games taking place, however those that are provide a great prospect of entertainment for this heading to the respective grounds.
Staring at Chadderton where the home side face Widnes at Andrew Street having had an indifferent couple of games. Their last league encounter which was at home to Litherland saw them conceded a last minute equaliser, whilst at Eccleshall in the Men United cup last week they gave away a three goal lead held just after the hour mark and allowed the home side to level within a 20 minutes spell and ultimately lost the tie on penalties.
Steve Patterson and Mark Cook will be looking to sure things up at the back to keep Widnes at bay. The Halton side travel to Chadderton in relatively good form. They are unbeaten in their last three league games and that includes two decent looking away wins at Barnton and Northwich Manchester Villa respectively.
At Litherland Sports Park, high flying Litherland REMYCA face Hanley Town in a tough looking fixture that sees both clubs looking to make ground on the top three.
Remy Manager Phil Stafford described this game in the local media this week as Remyca’s most important game of the season so far, as they look to put some ground between themselves and their opponents.
Scoring goals have been their problem so far and they will be hoping that the addition of three attacking players to their squad, including Jordan Stafford from neighbours Bootle and Mark Barnes from Hitchin Town, will address their concerns.
Hanley travel to Merseyside buoyed by an impressive 4-1 home win over St Helens Town in the MEN United Cup first round last week, and their away form so far in the league has not been too bad. Like Litherland, scoring goals seems to have been a concern so far this campaign but with both Stair brothers scoring last week, they seem to be coming into form at the right time of the season which should make for a decent encounter.
The last fixture of the weekend sees Whitchurch Alport travel to Stockport Town still looking for their first win of the season, and in order to get it this weekend they will face a stiff challenge from Calum Sykes’ men.
Alport have played some good football this season but have struggled to grind out any sort of result, indeed in their ten games in their Division One campaign so far they have drawn no less than seven of them, and after going out of the MEN United Cup to a 5-1 home defeat to Ashton Town last weekend it is all to do for the Shropshire side.
Stockport Town currently sit third in the Division One form table and fourth in the actual League Table. They are unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions and a win in this game could see them leap Ashton Town in the table to go second. It’s fair to say that they have adapted well to life in the North West Counties League up to now and their current form is certainly making people sit up and take note.
