Colne's Vice-Chairman Richard Harries has won ”Unsung Hero of the Year” award in the annual Pendle Sports Awards.

Richard received the award having been nominated for his many contributions to his local football club Colne FC. Specifically, he has generously donated most of his spare time to maintaining the ground, using his wide range of abilities as a handyman whilst at the same time, contributing to the organisation of a wide range of youth teams.

As groundsman he maintains the main pitch in the stadium and has recently developed a new pitch outside the stadium for the young players to use on training days.

His contribution in all fields has been outstanding and his local club would not be in the position it is and have the facilities to accommodate so many teams if it were not for his constant industrious and conscientious efforts.

Richard was presented with his award at a presentation evening on Saturday 26th September at the ACE Centre in Nelson, along with a wide range and ages of sportsmen and women who were up for various awards.

He was proud to receive the award and receive the congratulations from his friends and colleagues from Colne FC on the night, saying he "is honoured to receive such a prestigious award and he wishes to thank everyone associated with the club for their kind words".
