Double Award For Town

St Helens Town Chairman John McKiernan and joint 1st team manager Alan Gillespie have both recognised in the 2015 St Helens District Sports Council awards.

In a ceremony held on Monday 21st September at St Helens Town Hall, with guests of honour The Mayor of St Helens, Councillor Stephen Glover and Mayoress Councillor Lynn Glover, the club were nominated in four of the six categories.

John McKiernan was presented with the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ award for 2015 and Alan Gillespie was voted ‘Coach of the Year’ following his Under 21s team success last season, which saw them lift the Cheshire FA U21s League title.

Jodie Calloway and Vice President Jim Barrett were shortlisted in the ‘Young Volunteer of the Year’ and the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ categories respectively.

John and Alan received framed certificates plus a £50 cheque each, and both are automatically put forward as a nominees for the Merseyside Sports Awards held at The Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool on Friday 27th November 2015.

John McKiernan said: “It’s great for Alan and I to receive individual recognition, but the nominations and awards are a reflection of the hard work undertaken by lots of volunteers at St Helens Town.

“Like lots of clubs across the Borough, we simply could not exist without the time and effort put in on a daily basis by volunteers”.
